Photographs from last Friday's Subbuteo action have been added to the July friendlies slide show. To view the slide show click here»
As there was an even number of players present only a few photographs were taken as everyone preferred to play rather than be the person with the camera.

Friday Subbuteo (Fri Jul 24 09)
Six players made it to Porter Ranch for the latest round of friendly games, and with three pitches everyone was playing at the same time.
Tonight was Nick Lindgren's competitive debut, he had previously played in the 2008 Junior Summer League. While Nick lost all three of the games he played at the end of the night he commented that "I feel that I'm starting to get better".
In the first round of games Dominic Hutchinson defeated Nick, who was using Maricopa Newcomer rules. Simon Hutchinson beat Kevin Nieman by a single goal. David Jensen, who had not played in over two months, lost by three goals to Wayne Smith.
Nick, still using Maricopa Newcomer rules, fared no better in the second round losing to the elder Hutchinson, Simon, by a single goal. Dominic managed to hold Wayne to two goals. Two late goals gave Kevin a "come back" victory over David.
In the final round a goal with only two seconds left in the game gave David his first win of the night. While Kevin described his game with Wayne as a "joke fest with the Subbuteo being second", Wayne still scored the only goal to win. Without Maricopa Newcomer rules Nick was mercy ruled by Dominic with 50 seconds remaining in the second half.
Subbuteo futsal rules (Wed Jul 22 09)
As you can see from the earlier news stories the Southern California Subbuteo Club has been playing Subbuteo futsal. But what are the rules for this game?
After an extensive search of the internet none could be found. Therefore, the SCSC have developed their own rules based upon the standard FISTF rules. You can find the first draft of these rules here» (requires Adobe Reader)
A link to these rules has been added to the Rules section of our links page here»

Blue futsal pitch (Mon Jul 13 09)
The Blue futsal pitch is the new addition to the pitches used by the Southern California Subbuteo Club. It caused a lot interest on Friday night during the friendlies, and most of the games played were futsal games on the new pitch.
You can learn more about this pitch on the Blue futsal pitch page.
You can view all of the other commonly used pitches in the Pitches section of this website.
Friday Subbuteo (Fri Jul 10 09)
The Hutchinson's newest pitch, the Blue futsal, made its debut tonight. Being to scale it is a lot smaller than a regular Subbuteo pitch. As the Southern California Subbuteo Club could not find Subbuteo futsal rules they are developing their own based on the standard Subbuteo rules and the rules of futsal.
More games were played on the new pitch than the other two regularly sized pitches. Adam Carlson claimed the first win on the new pitch, defeating Dominic Hutchinson by a single goal. Jason Mitchell went down to back-to-back defeats losing by the same score to tboth of the Hutchinsons.
One of the club rules is that no futsal game can end in a tie. If the game is tied at the end of both periods then the winner is decided by a shoot out, from the second penalty spot. Adam and Simon Hutchinson tied their game 1-1, and Adam won the shoot out in sudden death. Carlson's next game end in a 1-1 tie with Wayne Smith, in the shoot out Wayne scored all of his while two of Adam's shots were saved.
In the final game on the futsal pitch Wayne defeated Adam, without the need for a shoot out.
On the regularly size Subbuteo pitches Simon beat Jason by two goals, and then fought back from a goal down to tie with Wayne.
Rivas returns (Wed Jul 8 09)
Former Southern California Subbuteo Club player Ric Rivas is returning to the USA on July 13.
Rivas was a stalwart of the local Subbuteo scene, joining the SCSC in 2004 until 2006 when he left the country. In that time he played 79 games, including winning the Mary Jane in the ASA Open in April 2006 in a dramatic shoot out. The club held a farewell event in his honor before he left California.
He emigrated to Singapore to marry Seow Yin in June 2007. During his time in the island nation he was an active member of the Lions Subbuteo Club, becoming the fourth best player in the club, and in June of this year was ranked 797th in the world by FISTF. He introduced his wife to the game and she took part in her first tournament in December 2007, and was one of two women players in the Lion City.
Ric and Seow Yin will be going first to Tucson, Arizona, to stay with family before deciding where they will live. We hope it will be in So Cal so we can welcome them both into our club.
"I can't wait to see you guys," Ric told us. "Singapore is pretty much the hotbed for Subbuteo in Asia, I like to think I had a lot to do with it. I think we made much more of an impact here [in Singapore] than Beckham did for the [Los Angeles] Galaxy."
