Season 7 (Fri May 29 09)
Honors were even in the two Championship games between Simon Hutchinson and Steve Tucker as both players won one game. Steve remains in second place, two points behind Wayne Smith and with a game in hand. Despite losing to Simon he can still win the championship. Simon moves up into third place, leap frogging Kevin Nieman. Simon has completed all of his group fixtures, but Kevin has one point less than Simon and a game in hand against Steve.
Honors were also share between Jason Mitchell and Munir Merchant, in the Wood Spoon group, with both players winning one game. Jason still leads the group with two more points than Munir, but he has played two more games. Dominic Hutchinson's defeat means that he will finish bottom of the group and wins the wooden spoon, regardless of the results of his last two games.

Season 7 (Tue May 26 09)
In the Southern California Subbuteo Club's Season 7 Wayne Smith overwhelmed Kevin Nieman in their two games, scoring ten goals. The six points from the victories moved Wayne back to the top of the Championship group. He has five more points than second place Steve Tucker, who has played three less games. It is so close that the winner of the Championship will probably be decided by the last Championship group game of the season.
Fourth place Simon Hutchinson could move above third place Kevin, if Kevin loses his final match against Steve. Two draws between Simon and Steve would not be enough as Simon and Kevin will have the same number of points. Goal difference is not used, the record of the games between the players is used. Kevin would finish above Simon as he has beaten Simon twice, tied once, and lost once.
The first leg of the League Cup final between Simon and Wayne ended goalless as both players' defense frustrated the other's offense. As Wayne is the "home" team in the second leg he would be the favored player to win the Cup.
Feedback from the Galaxy Cup (Sun May 24 09)
This website has received several emails from people who watched the LA Galaxy Subbuteo Cup at the Home Depot Center on May 2.
Below is a typical one of these emails:
I too was one of the many onlookers for the Subbuteo LA Galaxy tournament. After seeing the game being played, I became curious as to the game. I began to research and attempt to understand the game that was played that day.
As a result, I ended up buying a set for myself and my family. So thank you guys for exposing me to the game. Now my family will have another enjoyable game to play together. Thanks.

Season 7 (Fri May 22 09)
It was a disappointing night as Kevin Nieman was the only player to make it to the Hutchinsons' home tonight. Therefore, there was only one of the Southern California Subbuteo Club's Season 7 league game that could be played.
In the Championship group Simon Hutchinson exacted revenge defeating Kevin in his home game, to make up for last week's loss. The result does not change the order of the players in the Championship group's league table. Steve Tucker is in first place, with one more point than second place Wayne Smith, who has played one more game. Kevin is third and Simon is fourth, two points behind Kevin and having played one game more.
After their league game Simon and Kevin played two Supplemental games. The first ended a tie, and Simon won the second with a goal that seemed to defy the rules of physics.

Subbuteo Cup
The first Los Angeles Galaxy Subbuteo Cup was a great success. The Galaxy soccer club had approached the Southern California Subbuteo Club to play a tournament at their stadium, the Home Depot Center, to show their fans what the game of Subbuteo is.
On Saturday 2 May we were admitted early to the stadium, before the fans, to set up on the stadium’s Concourse. Their were only a few spectators for the first round, all of them employees of the Galaxy who had heard talk of a Subbuteo tournament and wanted to check out what this was.
By the time we had finished playing the semi finals there was a throng of eager fans all interested in what we were doing and full of questions. We allowed many to have a flick with a few figures and a ball or as a goalkeeper so they could experience the game first hand.
When we were ready to play the final at 5 PM there was a throng of people watching. As the final progressed those not playing were either demonstrating the game on other pitches or were mingling with the watching fans explaining to them what was going on and the basics of the game.
At the end Wayne Smith was victorious having defeated Steve Tucker by 3-1. Chris Thomas, of the Galaxy, was on hand to present the cup. And we had handed out over a hundred flyers to passer bys. All of the players who had participated agreed that this was a truly wonderful experience, to play Subbuteo at a soccer stadium in front of a large crowd.
After we had packed everything back into our vehicles we watched the Galaxy win their first game of the season, defeating the New York Red Bulls 1-0.

Season 7 splits (Mon May 4 09)
Stage One of Season 7 finished on Friday (May 1), and the League Committee met to discuss the next stage of the season.
The first issue was what would happen to Adam Carlson. Adam only completed a third of his Stage One games. The League Committee decided to expunge Adam's record from the competition in line with the Season 7 rule regarding Forfeits.
With Adam's results removed there are two changes to the league table. Steve Tucker moves into first place, with two more points than Wayne Smith. And Munir Merchant moves up to fifth place replacing Jason Mitchell, who is now in sixth.
These changes in the league table to do not effect the split. The players are now divided into two groups with separate championships to play for.
- Championship group: Steve, Wayne, Kevin Nieman, and Simon Hutchinson.
- Wooden Spoon group: Munir, Jason, and Dominic Hutchinson.
In the Championship group each player will play the others in that group twice more, once "home" and once "away".
As the Wooden Spoon has one player less they will the others in the group three times more, once "home", once "away", and once "neutral".
The final table for Stage One has been broken out into each players home and away records.
ASA Rolling Rankings (Sun May 3 09)
The American Subbuteo Association published the latest Rolling Rankings on May 1. This is how the Southern California Subbuteo Club players are ranked:
| 6. | Wayne Smith | 56. | David Jensen | |
| 15. | Steve Tucker | 59. | Jason Mitchell | |
| 24. | Simon Hutchinson | 66. | Edgar Flores, Ian Sayer | |
| 32. | Kevin Nieman | 77. | Dominic Hutchinson, | |
| 44. | John Carroll | 86. | Edward Nathan, Adam Carlson | |
| 53. | Munir Merchant | 115. | Sean Daly |
This month's climbers when compared to last month's rankings were Simon Hutchinson, beaten Open finalist in the last ASA Open up five places, and John Carroll, beaten Open semi finalist up two places. Wayne Smith remains the top ranked Californian and stayed in sixth place, the others all dropped a few places.
What are the Rolling Rankings?
Only the ranking points won in the last twelve months are counted. If the player has played in more than five ASA tournaments in that time period only the points
won in their best five finishes are counted.
LA Galaxy Subbuteo Cup (Sat May 2 09)
What a historic afternoon. The Southern California Subbuteo Club played the first Los Angeles Galaxy Subbuteo Cup at the Los Angeles Galaxy's stadium, the Home Depot Center, in front of a crowd of spectators all eager to learn what this game called "Subbuteo" is.
While Wayne Smith came away with the cup, most of the players were excited more by the interest there had been in the game. Over a hundred flyers were handed out. Let's hope that our efforts will kindle the interest in some others to start playing.
The club would like to thank Chris Thomas of the Galaxy and Steve Tucker for organizing this event.
Season 7 (Fri May 1 09)
