The Western States Open returned to California, where it was first played in 1999, after a four year absence. Fittingly the turn out for this tournament was the largest of any event in the history of the Southern California Subbuteo Club, with twelve players competing for the trophy.
Among the competitors was Wayne Smith, who had won it twice before when it had been played in the “Golden State”, in 1999 and 2004. And we welcomed a new player, David Jensen, who was undertaking a baptism of fire on his return to the world of Subbuteo... More»

7. USA: Maricopa cup 2008 (by Simon Hutchinson)
The sixth round of the Maricopa Cup, played on August 16, saw the return of
Greg Willey. Willey was a regular player in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The club lost touch with him after the end of Season 4 and start of Season
5 in 2006. It was a day when the newer players did very well with Munir
Merchant finished in second place and Jason Mitchell in third, both players
only lost one game. Wayne Smith was undefeated (again) and finished in
first place. You can read a full report and see all the results on the
Southern California Subbuteo Club's website.
On August 23 the Southern California Subbuteo Club is hosting the Western
States Open, the largest tournament in the western United States.
