ASA Rolling Rankings updated (Thu Jul 31 08)
The American Subbuteo Association (ASA) has updated their rolling rankings with the results from the ASA Nationals. The rankings of the members of the Southern California Subbuteo Club are as follows:

What are the rolling rankings?
Only the ranking points won in the last 12 months are counted. If the player has played in more than five ASA tournaments in that time period only
the points won in their best five finishes are counted.

Season 6 proposal (Mon Jul 28 08)
After weeks of talks we now have a proposal to share for a new league, Season 6, to be played this year. You can see the proposal here»
The proposal is not final, and we are open to any ideas you may have for it. If you have any please email Simon Hutchinson or use the Contact Us page to send it.
If everything goes to plan we envisage it kicking off at the start of September and it will finish at the end of the year.

Werder Weekly (Fri Jul 25 08)
Last weekend Wayne Smith and Steve Tucker had played in the ASA Nationals and they regaled the others with their exploits and were eager to try and tactics they had seen at the tournament. Junior Summer League (Fri Jul 25 08)
Last night Nicholas Lindgren returned for the second night of the Junior Summer League. He played a couple of practice games and showed that he can flick well, including scoring a goal, he just needs to become more familiar with the rules and tactics of the game.
League president, Dominic Hutchinson, is hoping for a larger turn out next week.

Sunday at the Nationals (Mon Jul 21 08)
As more news trickles out of Boise from the American Subbuteo Association National championships we learned today that the Southern California Subbuteo Club players, Steve Tucker and Wayne Smith, were paired in the quarter finals of the Jerry Garcia Memorial Cup on Sunday.
The game ended tied, 1-1, and Tucker won the shoot out to advance to the semi finals.
In the semi final Steve lost 0-2 to Patrick Sheridan (Maryland SC).
ASA Nationals update (Sun Jul 20 08)
Southern California Subbuteo Club players did well yesterday in the American Subbuteo Association's National tournament in Boise, ID.
Championship tournament: Wayne Smith lost to Lenny Foster (Boise Unemployed SL) 1-0 in the Quarter Finals of the Open tournament. Earlier, in what could be described as the "biggest upset" of the tournament, Smith had beaten number three ranked Daniel Cranston (Maryland SC) 3-1 in the group stage. Steve Tucker was defeated in the Mary Jane final by Jonathon Smith (Boise Unemployed SL) 1-0.
Veterans tournament: Smith beat number four ranked Alex Batacchi (Suncoast TSL, FL) in the semi finals, and lost to Paul Eyes (Maryland SC) 0-3 in the final. Earlier Eyes had defeated Tucker 1-5 in the other semi final.

Disappointment at the JSL (Fri Jul 18 08)
Junior Summer League president, Dominic Hutchinson, was disappointed that only one of the new players who said they would attend last night made it.
Nicholas Lindgren, who had played once in 2007, played a couple of practice games and showed that he can flick. He just needs time to learn the rules and tactics.
After the games Dominic said he was looking forward to the next meeting when he hopes the other players will attend.

4. USA: Maricoba Cup round 5 (by Simon Hutchinson)
The fifth round of this year's Maricopa Cup was played in Simi Valley,
California, on Saturday 12 July.
Despite saying that luck was not with him Wayne Smith finished top of the
table with four wins and one draw. Second place Steve Tucker was the
player who had held Smith to a goalless tie. Simon Hutchinson finished in
third place with three wins, beating the players who finished below him,
and two defeats, losing to Tucker and Smith. Kevin Nieman's victory in the
last game of the day ensure that he would finish in fourth place and Munir
Merchant finish in sixth. Under 15 player Dominic Hutchinson finished in
fifth place.

SCSC players go to ASA Nationals (Wed Jul 16 08)
Steve Tucker and Wayne Smith will be representing the Southern California Subbuteo Club in this weekend's ASA National Championships in Boise, Idaho.
Both players will be playing as individuals in the Open, Veterans, and Jerry Garcia Memorial tournaments. On Sunday they will be part of the Southern California Subbuteo Club team, which includes Zach Walker (member of Sporting America, DC, and current No. 1 in the ASA rankings) and Alex Batacchi (Suncoast, FL, ranked 4), in the teams tournament.
We would like to wish them both the best of luck and look forward to them telling us all about their experiences from this weekend.

JSL kicks off on Thursday (Mon Jul 14 08)
The Junior Summer League (JSL) kicks off on Thursday at 6:00 PM in Simi Valley.
The JSL is a development league for players under the age 18. It will provide these younger players with an environment where they can learn and practice Subbuteo with their peers.

Maricopa Cup Round 5 (Sat Jul 12 08)

Hook signs up for WSO (Tue Jul 8 08)
Brian Hook is the 11th players to sign up for this year's Western States Open, held on Saturday August 23.
This is the biggest Subbuteo event in California this year. If you are only going to play in one tournament this year this is the one.
