6. USA: Wayne Smith Wins the Southern California Open (by Kevin Nieman)
Wayne Smith of Northridge, California, won the Southern California Subbuteo Club Open on March 16th, defeating Steve Tucker of Simi Valley, California
by a score of 5-2. Wayne, the co-founder of the club, called the Open Final match a
"rip-roaring game".

Nieman reaches 200 (Mon Mar 17 08)
Congratulations to Kevin Nieman, who became only the third SCSC player to reach the 200 games milestone when he played in the ASA Open Third place play off game on Sunday.

Smith wins Open (Sun Mar 16 08)
Wayne Smith added the first ASA Open tournament of 2008 in California to his long list of tournament victories, beating Steve Tucker in the final. John Carroll finished in third place, defeating Kevin Nieman in the Third place play off game.
As three players qualified for the Mary Jane it was played as a "round robin". Simon Hutchinson finished in first place with two wins. Edward Nathan came second, and Dominic Hutchinson finished in third place.

Munir Merchant opened the evening with a 'mercy rule' win over Adam Carlson, and he was the only person to score a goal against Wayne Smith. Adam Carlson beat Dominic Hutchinson and gave Simon Hutchinson a scare by taking the lead in their game after only two minutes... More»

ASA Open in March (Wed Mar 5 08)
There will be an ASA Open tournament on Sunday March 16 in Northridge. As it is an ASA event there is a $2.00 entrance fee for players who have competed in an ASA tournament before, and it is free for those who have not. To learn more about the Open and find out how to register go here»
The third round of the Maricopa Cup which was originally scheduled for this date has been postponed to Sunday April 20.
