USA: SCSC Buhe tournament
There was plenty of action in the Southern California Subbuteo Club's Buhe tournament on Saturday 18th August.
Wayne Smith proved, yet again, that he is the best player in California winning the tournament with four wins in as many games. The battle for second place saw
some of the most intense games between Simon Hutchinson, Kevin Nieman and Steve
Tucker. Winning goals were scored in the closing minutes or seconds of games.
It was also memorable for newcomer Brian Hook, who scored his first goal in a
tournament.![]()

USA: Maricopa Cup
On Sunday August 12 Wayne Smith's run of 26 consecutive wins in this year's Maricopa Cup came to an end when he was
held to a goalless draw by Simon Hutchinson. This is the first time he has failed to beat Hutchinson in 50 games. "Simon's defense was stifling," was
Smith's comment after the game. Despite this set back he still finished in first place with wins over Kevin Nieman and Brian Hook. Hutchinson finished in second
place following a draw with Nieman, their 11th in 23 games, and victory over Hook.Nieman's
win over Hook gave him third place. This was Hook's first time competing in
the Maricopa Cup. And as the tournament progressed his opponents noted that
his flicking and perception of the game improved.![]()
