Updated ASA Rolling Rankings (Mon Jan 5)
The American Subbuteo Association published the latest Rolling Rankings yesterday, January 4. This is how the Southern California Subbuteo Club players are ranked this month:
| 6. | Wayne Smith | 67. | Jason Mitchell | |
| 14. | Steve Tucker | 74. | Edgar Flores, Ian Sayer | |
| 38. | Simon Hutchinson | 80. | Dominic Hutchinson, David Jensen | |
| 40. | Kevin Nieman | 85. | Edward Nathan | |
| 56. | John Carroll | 87. | Adam Carlson | |
| 61. | Munir Merchant | 121. | Sean Daly |
What are the Rolling Rankings?
Only the ranking points won in the last twelve months are counted. If the player has played in more than five ASA tournaments in that time period only the points
won in their best five finishes are counted.
These rankings will be used for seeding players in the upcoming ASA Open.
Another players signs up for ASA Open (Sun Jan 4)
David Jensen is the fifth player to sign up for the ASA Open that will be played on Sunday January 25.
Sunday January 18 is the deadline for signing up for this tournament. Therefore, there is still time for you to say you are going to take part. Either email Simon Hutchinson or use the Contact page to sign up.
More information about this tournament can be found on the ASA Open January 2009 page.
Season 6 Supplemental games (Fri Jan 2)
There were only two players present, Simon Hutchinson and Wayne Smith, and as they had played all their league games against one another they played three Supplemental (friendly) games.
The first game ended in a tie. Thereafter, they decided to test the possibility of the "away" player using the Subbuteo/Zeugo smaller goalkeeper. Two more games were played as a two-legged competition, and both players had a turn to be the "home" player, using their choice of goalkeeper, and their opponent was the "away" player using the smaller goalkeeper. Eleven goals were scored in the games, and both players had to admit that using the smaller goalkeeper did make a big difference in the way they could tend goal.

Season 6 change of venue (Mon Dec 29)
Wayne Smith will now host the Season 6 play on Friday January 9 at his home in Porter Ranch.
He has also agreed to host on Friday January 23. As Season 6 finishes on January 16 the 23rd will be counted as Season 6 Supplemental games.
Ideas for "home" and "away" (Sat Dec 27)
With only four games left to be played in Season 6 our thoughts start to turn to Season 7, which will probably start in February 2009.
In Season 6 we did not differentiate between the "home" and the "away" player.
In previous seasons different sized goals were used, see here, but this limits the number of venues that can be used for league games.
Another suggestion has been made that the "away" player uses a traditional Subbuteo or Zeugo style goalkeeper and the "home" gets to use the goalkeeper of his choice. For a comparison of the different types of goalkeepers see here.
If anyone has any other ideas about how to make a difference between "home" and "away" please use the Contact page to send us your suggestion.
Season 6 (Fri Dec 12)
With a victory and a tie with Jason Mitchell, Kevin Nieman won the championship of the Wooden Spoon play off group.
The only undecided issue is third and fourth places in the Championship play off group. Munir Merchant, currently in fourth place, beat third place Simon Hutchinson. There are now only two points separating these two.
In Supplemental (friendly) games Simon scored five goals in the last quarter of the game to defeat Jason, and Wayne Smith defeated Kevin.
