The problem with the American Subbuteo Association's rankings is that they only include sanctioned tournaments.  The Southern California Subbuteo Club plays so many other tournaments, seasons, and friendly games that count for naught with the ASA.

Dominic Hutchinson gave himself the task to create the "California rankings" for 2009, to make a better picture of the club's members' positions relative to one another.  His rankings are based on three factors: "Tournaments", "Seasons", and "Other games".

The algorithm gives three times the weight to a player’s participation in a "Season" when compared to their participation in a "Tournament", as more games are played in a season than in one day tournaments.  In turn "Tournaments" are weighted ten times more than "Other games".

The table, below, shows the number of "Seasons" and "Tournaments" the player participated in, and the number of "Other games" played.  The "ASA Rank" is the players' relative position on the December 28, 2009, ASA rankings, it makes an interesting contrast to the "California rankings".

The algorithm used is still a "work in progress" and we are striving to improve it.  If you have any suggestions for enhancements please contact us through this website.
