Notes
The first player is the "home" player, the second player was the "away" player and had to use the small Subbuteo or Zeugo style goalkeeper.
Fri Jun 11: Wayner Bremen 4 v Red Star 0 (HT 2-0)
Goals
First half
1-0 5:19 Wayner Bremen
2-0 2:27 Wayner Bremen.
Second half
3-0 5:39 Wayner Bremen
4-0 7:21 Wayner Bremen - mercy rule enacted.
Pitch : Mawra, Porter Ranch
Comments:
Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith: My figures were gliding as if on ice. Simon's looked like they were gliding on Velcro. My shooting couldn't have got much better. The result, 4-0.
Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson: Disappointed and frustrated. The humidity made it really sticky for the Reds. They just kept sticking to the pitch, which prevented any long flicks and caused a lot of middle length flicks to come up short. Neither Swiss T, used [on the figure's bases] in the first half, nor the Pink polish, used in the second, made any difference. Wayne was on top form, perhaps the best I have seen him play all season. While the Reds did not expect to win, I am disappointed to have been mercy ruled.
Fri Jun 11: Inter Nieman 0 v Wayner Bremen 4 (HT 0-2)
Goals
First half
0-1 8:16 Wayner Bremen
0-2 12:48 Wayner Bremen.
Second half
0-3 3:36 Wayner Bremen
0-4 6:07 Wayner Bremen - mercy rule enacted.
Pitch : Mawra, Porter Ranch
Comments:
Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman: Pathetic, wonky, waste of a team, and I have four more games to play against Wayner. Ugh, can an entire Subbuteo team commit suicide? I'm voting for this one.
Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith: Again, my team's gliding great and I'm making good shots.
Fri Jun 11: Supplemental: Red Star 2 v Kumba "11" 0
Only one half played.
Fri Jun 11: Inter Nieman 0 v Red Star 2 (HT 0-1)
Goals
First half
0-1 13:14 Red Star.
Second half
0-2 8:16 Red Star - penalty.
Pitch : Mawra, Porter Ranch
Comments:
Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman: This was a disappointing match. I could not stop Simon's offense. His first goal came as I literally watched him flick without flicking any defense. Then I conceded a penalty. Not only not a shinning moment, but a particular low for Inter's season.
Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson: The game was a lot closer than the score suggests. The stickiness of both teams' figures had a definite effect on the game. While Inter had most of the possession, they were unable to turn it into shots on goal. The Reds defense played really well to keep Inter wide, and to angles where they could not get a decent shot. Due to the sticky conditions Inter were unable to play their usual game of long cross pitch flicks. The Reds adapted their tactics to the conditions quicker, and were able to work their way through and around Inter's defensive line always looking the more likely team to score. My 100% record for scoring penalties still stands.
Fri Jun 11: Wayner Bremen 4 v Simi City 0 (HT 1-0)
Goals
First half
1-0 9:38 Wayner Bremen.
Second half
2-0 1:25 Wayner Bremen
3-0 6:18 Wayner Bremen
4-0 13:35 Wayner Bremen - mercy rule enacted.
Pitch : Mawra, Porter Ranch
Comments:
Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith: This is my night! I'm flicking well, my guys are gliding and I'm shooting well. I'm 3-0-0, 12-0 [goals].
Simi City coach Simon Hutchinson: Another very disappointing result. Wayne is playing so well, and is unstoppable. The sticky pitch is reeking havoc with Simi's game, and is frustrating the heck out of me.
Fri Jun 11: Wayner Bremen 4 v Inter Nieman 0 (HT 3-0)
Goals
First half
1-0 1:50 Wayner Bremen
2-0 7:16 Wayner Bremen
3-0 14:26 Wayner Bremen.
Second half
4-0 6:30 Wayner Bremen - mercy rule enacted.
Pitch : Mawra, Porter Ranch
Comments:
Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman: What can I say when I get mercy ruled twice in the same evening? Um... I haven't a clue. Now... here's Wayne.
Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith: More of the same! Best night I've had in years!
Fri Jun 18: Simi City 2 v Hollywood Hammers 0 (HT 1-0)
Goals
First half
1-0 6:59 Simi City.
Second half
2-0 8:21 Simi City.
Pitch : Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell: A good match. I had some chances and passed well, but Simon scored two good goals to win.
Simi City coach Simon Hutchinson: Simi played well for their first game of the night. They scored two well taken goals, and had several other shots that were saved by the goalkeeper or hit the goal posts. Simi's defense played well limiting the Hammers to just a couple of shots on goal. Hammers almost tied the game at the end of the first half. Their well struck shot close to the right post was brilliantly by Simi's goalkeeper. I know Kumba will be pleased with this result as this keeps the Hammers a point behind them.
Fri Jun 18: Wayner Bremen 1 v Valley Irons 0 (HT 0-0)
Goals
Second half
1-0 11:44 Wayner Bremen.
Pitch : Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Valley Irons coach Jason Mitchell: Really got my figures moving well on these lightweight bases. Felt was unlucky.
Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith: Jason's flicks were superb. He made one tactical error and I managed a goal out of it. Last week I could do no wrong. So far this week I've been flicking poorly, relying on luck for my only goal. I think Jason had more quality chances than I.
Fri Jun 18: Simi City 1 v Inter Nieman 0 (HT 0-0)
Goals
Second half
1-0 2:51 Simi City.
Pitch : Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman: Despite feeling relatively good, and surprising Simon a few times, no quality chances, one botched corner, and Simon's goal lead to my defeat.
Simi City coach Simon Hutchinson: Looking at the league table Simi City should have won this easily. But they struggled. Simi had marginally more of the offense, but struggled to get into shooting positions. Inter did well to ensure that Simi always had to be on their guard to prevent a breakaway goal. At this stage of the season all that matters is that this was another three points won.
Fri Jun 18: Valley Irons 0 v Wayner Bremen 4 (HT 0-1)
Goals
First half
0-1 14:41 Wayner Bremen.
Second half
0-2 2:55 Wayner Bremen
0-3 4:17 Wayner Bremen - scored on a stranded goalkeeper
0-4 13:16 Wayner Bremen - mercy rule enacted.
Pitch : Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Valley Irons coach Jason Mitchell: Rather unlucky even though [it was] a 4-0 defeat.
Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith: I flicked rather better than last game. When I took a 3-0 lead, Jason pretty much threw in the towel. The first half was very tight. After the first goal, things opened up.
Fri Jun 18: Hollywood Hammers 0 v Inventus 1 (HT 0-0)
Goals
Second half
0-1 6:47 Inventus.
Pitch : Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Inventus coach Kevin Nieman: After countless matches with Inter Nieman, I had to adjust to the different bases on my Inventus team. I felt surprisingly good flicking the more professional bases. Jason and I drew level until the second half when he pushed his team forward. I took advantage of his porous defense and scored an upper left corner shot to score the winning goal. First win in a long time.
Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell: This is the best Kevin played against me this season. He controlled the game and his passing was spot on. I struggled to create any real clear chances until one in the last minute. Bad result for me as fifth place is up for grabs.
Fri Jun 18: Wayner Bremen 2 v Red Star 0 (HT 0-0)
Goals
First half
1-0 5:46 Wayner Bremen.
Second half
2-0 10:33 Wayner Bremen.
Pitch : Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson: While the Reds never really stood a chance I was disappointed to concede the first goal. A strong defense and good goalkeeping held the Wayners to only scoring two goals. Not bad for an away game.
Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith: Workmanlike win. Just kind of ground out the win. Simon never had more than two men up. By midway through the second half Simon's figures weren't sliding. Nonetheless, his defense was stout. In addition, he made one terrific save. I took a shot from right in front of the goal, with my figure seven inches from the ball. My shot headed for just inside the left post and Simon flung his goalkeeper over to save it.
Fri Jun 18: Wayner Bremen 3 v Inter Nieman 0 (HT 1-0)
Goals
First half
1-0 4:23 Wayner Bremen.
Second half
2-0 10:08 Wayner Bremen
3-0 13:47 Wayner Bremen.
Pitch : Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman: Despite the 0-3 drubbing, I'm happy not to succumb to the oppressive mercy rule. How's that for selectively choosing my positive motivators?
Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith: Kevin's defense was quite decent. Two of my goals were quite outrageous. One was at a bad angle not only at goal, but even to get to the ball. The other goal was flicked from just a few inches in front of my shooting line. In addition, Kevin made a save of a shot in which the figure was flicked from my shooting line.
Fri Jun 18: Red Star 3 v Valley Irons 0 (HT 2-0)
Goals
First half
1-0 6:45 Red Star
2-0 9:49 Red Star.
Second half
3-0 13:41 Red Star.
Pitch : Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson: Reds struggled with their shooting. The Irons goalkeeper made a lot of saves. The Reds had lots of possession, but always took one too many flicks when lining up a shot. The times they did not were the times they scored.
Valley Irons coach Jason Mitchell: A poor performance. The 4AM World Cup starts are taking their toll! [The first games of the day of the FIFA World Cup group stage start at 4:00 AM California time]
