Notes

The first player is the "home" player, the second player was the "away" player and had to use the small Subbuteo or Zeugo style goalkeeper.

Fri May 28: Red Star 2 v Hollywood Hammers 2 (HT 2-1)

Red Star v Hollywood Hammers

Goals
First half
1-0  0:26  Red Star
2-0  6:42  Red Star
2-1  8:16  Hollywood Hammers.
Second half
2-2  2:45  Hollywood Hammers.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell:  A great fight back from two down.  Defended well.  A good result.

Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson:  Very disappointed with the result, especially after being 2-0 up so early.  The game started so well with a goal coming straight from the kick off.  The Reds dominated large parts of the game, but the figures became sticky in the humid conditions and made it difficult to flick with them.

Fri May 28: Kumba 1 v Wayner Bremen 2 (HT 1-1)

Goals
First half
1-0  5:54  Kumba
1-1  10:00 Wayner Bremen.
Second half
1-2  9:20  Wayner Bremen.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith:  Dominic played well.  he had a great early goal.  His defense was very good.  He can now predict my next offensive flick.  This really made his defense effective against me.

Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson:  Wayne's defense was lacking more than usual, but after the first goal [he had] eight men back.  That made it impossible to score.

Comments:

Inventus coach Kevin Nieman:  Those two goals [at the end of the first half] were the best goals I have seen anyone score.  Wow!

Fri May 28: Red Star 0 v Wayner Bremen 2 (HT 0-1)

Red Star v Wayner Bremen

Goals
First half
0-1  7:45  Wayner Bremen.
Second half
0-2  5:47  Wayner Bremen.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith:  I did a great job controlling the ball early on.  I don't think Simon had a touch in my shooting zone before my first goal.  Simon's figures stickiness probably had a hand in my early dominance.  Simon managed to get slightly better touch [as the game went on] , but his sticky figures forced some very bad touches.  In short, the humidity was a more powerful adversary that I was.

Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson:  The Reds' offense was non existent as the were defeated by the humidity and good defending.  And the Reds' goalkeeper did very well to keep the score down to what it was.  Another disappointing result tonight.

Fri May 28: Inter Nieman 1 v Kumba 2 (HT 0-1)

Inter Nieman v Kumba

Goals
First half
0-1  3:14  Kumba.
Second half
0-2  2:18  Kumba
1-2  11:10  Inter Nieman.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman:  My back told me prior to the match that Dominic was going to win.  I even told him this.  As my back is a licensed soothsayer, it was eerily correct.  Dominic had a great offense, and while I score one goal I could not equalize.

Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson:  Couldn't say it better of myself.  Both of my goals [were] high speed [shots into the] top corners [of the goal].

Fri May 28: Hollywood Hammers 2 v Left Hannover the Table 96 2 (HT 0-0)

Hollywood Hammers v Left Hannover the Table 96

Goals
First half
0-1  3:22  Left Hannover the Table 96
1-1  8:17  Hollywood Hammers.
Second half
1-2  2:19  Left Hannover the Table 96
2-2  4:08  Hollywood Hammers.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  Wow!  That was an exciting game!  We both threw players forward, which left us open at the back.  The result was a bunch of exciting chances and four goals.  With 1:57 left I called back a goal because of a foul.  My shooting figure brushed against a defender before smacking the ball into the goal.

Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell:  Another great game.  I came back twice.  It was end-to-end, and either team could have snatched the win.

Fri May 28: Red Star 5 v Inter Nieman 1 (HT 2-1)

Goals
First half
1-0  2:19  Red Star
1-1  4:51  Inter Nieman
2-1  11:49  Red Star - scored on a stranded goalkeeper.
Second half
3-1  6:11 Red Star
4-1  10:58  Red Star
5-1  14:19  Red Star - mercy rule enacted.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman:  My play was horrible aside from some nice long flicks.  Simon really busted my porous defense, and I believe this is Inter's first ever mercy rule.  Forgettable all around.

This was Inter Nieman's and Kevin Nieman's first mercy rule defeat this season.

Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson:  After taking an early lead I was concerned for the Reds when Inter equalized.  It worried me that this game would be a repeat of the one against the Hammers earlier tonight [see here].  The rest of the first half was very tense.  It was only a mistake by Inter, stranding their goalkeeper, that gave the Reds to take a lead into half time.  Inters' spare keeper gave away possession to the left side of the penalty box, and only after what seemed like several minutes of flick and block could the Reds get the ball into a position for a shot on goal, as Inter defended very well.  During the second half the game changed and got very one sided.  Perhaps it was Kevin's sore back, or his mounting frustration with Hasbro solid bases.  But the Reds had the lion's share of possession and shooting opportunities.  I think after the Reds scored their fourth goal Inter just gave up.

0-2  9:20  Wayner Bremen
1-2  12:35  Hollywood Hammers.

Comments:

Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith:  Wow!  Another tough one against Jason.  At the end, I was scrambling to keep my slim lead.

Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell:  Played well, good passing, and a good goal.  Buy Wayne did create more chances and slightly edged it.

Fri June 4: Kumba 0 v Simi City 1 (HT 0-0)

Goals
First half
0-1  6:14  Simi City.

Pitch :  Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson:  Definitely a good warm up for the final game.  We were pretty evenly matched, but did a lot of too powerful flicks.  His goal was from the right, power shot into the top left corner.  Not much I could do to defend it, bit I did get one shot on Simon.

Simi City coach Simon Hutchinson:  Another Hutchinson derby that ended up as a tight and scrappy game.  For all the possession City had they only had a few shots, four or five.  At the other end Kumba did not have a shot on goal.  When they would get close to get into a shooting position City's defense would block all Kumba's strikers from the ball, leaving Kumba with a long flick for the shot.  Fortunately they missed the ball or hit the ball well wide of the goal.  City need to play a lot better than this tonight.

Goals
None.

Fri June 4: Kumba 0 v Inter Nieman 1 (HT 0-0)

Goals
Second half
0-1  12:40  Inter Nieman.

Pitch :  Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman:  My flicking was better than normal.  But did not get a goal until late in the second half.  My goal was not the prettiest goal.  But it led to my first ever Inter Nieman victory.  Yay!

Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson:  Not very happy about the game.  His goal was a long pass to an open defender which lead him to score directly.

Fri June 4: Left Hannover the Table 96 1 v Hollywood Hammers 1 (HT 0-0)

Goals
Second half
0-1  2:30  Hollywood Hammers
1-1  10:40  Left Hannover the Table 96.

Pitch :  Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  I was dreadful.  I made about five good flicks all game.  Fortunately for me, two were back-to-back and took advantage of a miss by Jason in his penalty area.  My goal was totally undeserved, as was my point for the tie.  Jason played very well and deserved the win.  His goal was fantastic.  A shooting line to shooting line touch up, followed by a great shot into the far netting.

Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell:  A good game.  I felt I controlled large parts of it, and scored a great goal.  Was unlucky to draw, but was happy not to lose.

Fri June 4: Valley Irons 0 v Simi City 4 (HT 0-0)

Valley Irons v Simi City

Goals
Second half
0-1  5:08  Simi City
0-2  6:00  Simi City
0-3  7:32  Simi City
0-4  11:35  Simi City - mercy rule enacted.

Pitch :  Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Simi City coach Simon Hutchinson:  The Irons had City really worried in the first half.  City were careless with the ball and kept giving up possession, and played too slow allowing time for the Irons to block them.  I don't think City had a shot on goal in the first half.  At the other end Irons looked to be the team more likely to score.  I was worried they would take the lead and then defend in numbers.  But the first two goals changed the game.  City finally moved from defense to offense quickly catching the Irons scrambling to defend.  After that Irons pushed forward in considerable numbers playing with one or no defenders.  This allowed City to win the ball in defense and then "route one" the ball up to a lone striker for the third and fourth goals.  I feel fortunate and flattered to have won by such a margin.

Valley Irons coach Jason Mitchell:  Defended well in the first half, but a total collapse in the second resulted in a thrashing.  A game I did think I'd win, and was proved right even after an even first half.

Fri June 4: Inter Nieman 0 v Left Hannover the Table 96 0

Inter Nieman v Left Hannover the Table 96

Goals
None.

Pitch :  Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  Dreadful match.  No keeper saves, one decent shot.  In my Simon Cowell voice "Rubbish, that was just rubbish" [Simon Cowell is a judge on the American Idol TV series].

Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman:  In my best Paul Abdul voice... um... I don;t have a Paula Abdul voice, so Vincent proice will have to do.  "This was a horrifying match in a macabre spectacle of morbidity and dread. I am glad I am dead because I cannot take much more mediocrity".  [Paula Abdul was a judge on the last series of American Idol,  The late Vincent Price is an actor known for his eerie voice and starring roles in many horror films].

Fri June 4: Simi City 2 v Left Hannover the Table 96 0 (HT 1-0)

Goals
First half
1-0  10:19  Simi City.
Second half
2-0  13:27  Simi City.

Pitch :  Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  I was flicking horrible.  When I did get shots they were right at the keeper.  Just a frustrating night.

Simi City coach Simon Hutchinson:  The Lefties struggled badly this game.  Both of my goals were hard shots leaving the small Lefites keeper without a chance to get in the way.  At the other end three good saves by the City keeper were enough to deny the Lefties a goal.  It was not a classic game, and the Lefties were dangerous and could have easily equalized before City's second goal.  A win is a win, and this result puts City in second place.

Goals
First half
0-1  12:25  Team.

Pitch :  Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Inventus coach Kevin Nieman:  Disappointed.  Great goal by Jason.  My figures were not sliding well.  But that is not excuse.  Good on Jason.

Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell:  Happy to get [the] win.  I'm really going for fifth place now, and feel I can get it as I have really hit form in the last three weeks.
