Notes

The first player is the "home" player, the second player was the "away" player and had to use the small Subbuteo or Zeugo style goalkeeper.

Fri May 14: Simi City 1 v Kumba 0 (HT 1-0)

Goals
First half
1-0  7:48  Simi City.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson:  Nothing really special.  We both had good defense.  After the early goal Simon pulled back his wall [defense].  Offensively this made it hard to score, but easy to goal kick.

Simi City coach Simon Hutchinson:  After last week's disappointment City kept up their concentration and although they only scored once they kept their defense in order for the win.  Like last week City won many corners, but struggled to take advantage of them due to some good defensive positioning by Kumba.  Perhaps this result can be counted as revenge for last week's tie. Fri May 14: Valley Irons 0 v Left Hannover the Table 96 2 (HT 0-1)

Valley Irons v Left Hannover the Table 96

Goals
First half
0-1  4:43  Left Hannover the Table 96.
Second half
0-2  10:37  Left Hannover the Table 96.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  While the nostalgic value of playing with light weights [bases] is high, using them is most difficult.  The result is that the Irons are a particularly weak team.  The Irons got two shots one was ripped into my keeper and then other rolled wide.

Valley Irons coach Jason Mitchell:  I thought I played well and conceded two weak goal.  I kept possession well and created a few chances but nothing clear cut.

Fri May 14: Simi City 3 v Valley Irons 0 (HT 2-0)

Goals
First half
1-0  5:07  Simi City
2-0  13:17  Simi City.
Second half
3-0  4:50  Simi City.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Simi City coach Simon Hutchinson:  The Irons played really well considering they were on the light weight bases, Jason is getting the hang of them.  Alas, for the Irons it was two bad defensive flicks that gave City the openings to score the second and third goals from almost straight in front of their goal.  City's shooting was superb, and the Irons' goalkeeper kept it from being a "mercy rule" win with several exceptional saves.

Valley Irons coach Jason Mitchell:  I played well again.  Created a few chances but once again conceded bad defensive goals.

Fri May 14: Kumba 0 v Left Hannover the Table 96 1 (HT 0-0)

Goals
Second half
0-1  2:57  Left Hannover the Table 96.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  In between all of Dominic's illegal flicks he managed several brilliant flicks.  One was from his own shooting line, he flicked a figure that I was sure would be a waste so I didn't even cover it.  Dom's figure not only got the ball, but blasted it off the far post, much to my surprise.

Late in the game I said to Dom "You've used every illegal flick technique I know".  Then he flicked a figure with his elbow.  I said "Now you've used every illegal flick technique I know".

Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson:  Decent game, I expected to do much worse.

3-0  14:13  Kumba.
Second half
4-0  12:55  Kumba  - "mercy rule" enacted

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson:  Jason is definately hating these [light weight] bases, his flicks were poor and whr I went two up he pushed everyone forward.  Then it was trying to make long goals.

Valley Irons coach Jason Mitchell:  I lost before the kick off.

Fri May 14: Left Hannover the Table 96 0 v Simi City 1 (HT 0-1)

Goals
First half
0-1  6:42  Simi City.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  I was continually frustrated by bad flicks and good defense by Simon.  My only good play was an amazing shot on a ball rolling through the shooting area.  I blasted the ball at goal, but hit the keeper square in the chest.

Simi City coach Simon Hutchinson:  A great win for City against one of the other teams challenging for second place.  The goal was a brilliant shot from the right, a chip over the goalkeeper.  The Lefties kept pressing but were thwarted mainly by a good defense by City, and to a lesser degree by misses or hitting the wrong side of the ball.  City did not sit back, they kept attacking and had several shots on target that were saved, or the build up for the shots was blocked by defenders.

Comments:

Valley Irons coach Jason Mitchell:  Thought I was unlucky.  Kept some good control but didn't create any chances.

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  Jason played really well even with the light weights [bases] .  He went about minute making ten incredible flicks in a row.

Wayner Bremen v Kumba

Goals
First half
1-0  2:56  Wayner Bremen
2-0  6:42  Wayner Bremen
3-0  10:53  Wayner Bremen
4-0  14:10  Wayner Bremen  - "mercy rule" enacted.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith:  I was red-hot and the Fast pitch really came in handy.  Dom didn't even have a half to get used to the speed of the pitch.

Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson:  Note to self: do not use excessive polish.  That plus the fact that Wayne was playing well didn't help a bit.  All and all a horrible game.

Red Star v Hollywood Hammers

Goals
Second half
1-0  8:04  Red Star.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell:  Very close game, very even, not many shots, and I deserved a draw.  Glad to be back using my regular team.

Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson:  A close game that the Reds just deserved to win.  They had the majority of the play.  The Reds' goalkeeper was nnot called on, while at the other end the Hammers' goalkeeper made three good saves.

Fri May 21: Kumba 0 v Inter Nieman 0

Kumba v Inter Nieman

Goals
None.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson:  Definitely an extremely boring game.  Both of us grappling with the pitch as much as each other.  It resulted in a resounding draw.

Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman:  Given the poor form of Inter Nieman, I'm just thankful I drew level.  It was not a good match on my part.  I had no shots despite three corners.  But I will gladly take the point.

Fri May 21: Wayner Bremen 3 v Hollywood Hammers 1 (HT 2-0)

Werder Bremen v Hollywood Hammers

Goals
First half
1-0  6:31  Wayner Bremen
2-0  11:34  Wayner Bremen.
Second half
3-0  13:36  Wayner Bremen
3-1  14:56  Hollywood Hammers.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith:  Wow, was I lucky.  Jason carved up my defense like no-one this whole season.  My keeper made two saves, one quite good, and Jason hit the underside of the crossbar on another shot.

Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell:  The best I have played versus Wayne.   I dominated opening play, but Wayne scored two good goals in  the first half.  An even second half where I managed to score my best ever goal with four seconds left.

Fri May 21: Inter Nieman 1 v Red Star 2 (HT 1-1)

Inter Nieman v Red Star

Goals
First half
0-1  8:26  Red Star
1-1  14:50  Inter Nieman.
Second half
1-2  8:39  Red Star.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson:  The Reds started well with a shot in the first two minutes, that struck the cross bar.  After the first goal the Reds started to get complacent, and were punished when Inter equalized just before half time.  I knew if the Reds could keep their cool they could get another goal in the second half.  It made of an interesting half, and I am very happy that the Reds scored the winnner when they did.  It was deserved as they had most of the shots on goal that half.

Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman:  I felt good to tied the game in the first half, but could not shut down Simon's attack.  Disappointing, but well played in the first half.

Fri May 21: Valley Irons 1 v Kumba 0 (HT 1-0)

Valley Irons v Kumba

Goals
First half
1-0  2:18  Valley Irons.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Valley Irons coach Jason Mitchell:  A great win, an early goal and my first victory using the light weight bases.  I'm off the bottom [of the league table].

Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson:  Terrible game.  I decided to polish before [the game] and it terribly affected my game.  Almost every one of my passes ended in a goal kick.  I missed almost every flick by a mile and could barely defend.  It was a miracle I only lost by one [goal].

Fri May 21: Red Star 0 v Left Hannover the Table 96 1 (HT 0-0)

Red Star v Left Hannover the Table 96

Goals
First half
0-1  8:24  Left Hannover the Table 96.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  Really tough match.  Simon made two good first half saves.  Oddly I can't remember either my goal, or either of the two saves I made.

Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson:  A really tough game for the Reds.  They deserved the draw as they played well to frustrate the Lefties' offense an to break through the Lefties' defense on several occasions.  The Reds had the first shot of the game, almost chipped the goalkeeper, but the ball ricocheted off the goalkeeper's finger tips and out for a throw closer to the Reds' shooting line than the Lefties'.

Inter Nieman v Hollywood Hammers

Goals
First half
0-1  5:54  Hollywood Hammers
0-2  12:48  Hollywood Hammers.
Second half
0-3  13:15  Hollywood Hammers.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman:  Continuing the ghastly showing by Inter.  I could not stop Jason's offense.  He was walking unmolested into my [shooting] area to try shot after shot.  Well done to Jason.

Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell:  A great win.  Created numerous chances.  Kevin struggled with his team and the bases [Hasbro solid] he has.  I was more than happy to take all three points.

Fri May 21: Hollywood Hammers 0 v Red Star 0

Goals
None.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson:  I don't know how the Reds did not win that [game].  They hit the post and cross bar at least five or six times, and forced the Hammers' goalkeeper to make numerous saves.  I also lost count of the number of times the Reds pushed the ball through the Hammers' defense only to miss the follow up flick by a few millimeters, that was the most frustrating.

At this point Kevin Nieman commented that he could not believe the number of times he heard the ball strike a goal post.

Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell:  A great point.  Defended the whole game and got what I wanted, a point.  A good night.

Sat May 22: Left Hannover the Table 96 0 v Inventus 0

Left Hannover the Table 96 v Inventus

Goals
None.

Pitch :  Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Inventus coach Kevin Nieman:  Wayne says this was a disappointing match, but given how I've played lately, I'm quiet happy.  I felt my flicks gave me good chances, but I couldn't capitalize on these chances.  I'm happy for the point, though.

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  My play wasn't great, but could have been worse.  I had a good shot, which Kevin saved and I saved a good shot of his.  I guess a tie is a fair result.

Sat May 22: Inventus 2 v Red Star 1 (HT 2-0)

Goals
First half
1-0  7:38  Inventus
2-0  13:47  Inventus.
Second half
2-1  7:29  Red Star.

Pitch :  Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Inventus coach Kevin Nieman:  This [game] was being filmed by an expert videographer, Dominic, so I had a good time dancing between stops in play.  That said, I was really on my game.  My first goal was good.  My second was lucky.  And the rest of the match was a tense effort by Simon to comeback, and he almost did it.  Good match against the Reds.

Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson:  This game was an example of the perils of using the small goalkeeper.  Both of Kevin's shots struck the goalkeeper.  The first goal was the ball striking the goalkeeper, onto the post, back of the goalkeeper, and into the goal.  The second the hard shot rolled up and over the goalkeeper and then into the goal.  If I had been using my regular [SportsFigure] goalkeeper I would have saved both.

My goal was a surprise.  I miss hit my shot and it went into the goal at the back post.  Kevin appeared to be frozen covering the near post.  I think we were both surprised it went in [to the goal].
