Notes
The first player is the "home" player, the second player was the "away" player and had to use the small Subbuteo or Zeugo style goalkeeper.
Fri Apr 30: League Cup Round 2: Kumba 0 v Simi City 2 (HT 0-0)
Goals
Second half
0-1 8:07 Simi City
0-2 13:51 Simi City.
Pitch : Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson: OK game, nothing really special. Two good goals from Simon. Did not like the outcome, but oh well...
Simi City coach Simon Hutchinson: Kumba always make this family derby games so hard. City struggled in the first half as Kumba was given time to block them. After the "hair drier" treatment at half time City played more aggressively in the second half. Finally a break on the left through a gap in the defense, and a shot off a defender's body gave City the lead. The second goal was a repeat of the first goal, but on the right.
Fri Apr 30: Inter Nieman 0 v Hollywood Hammers 0
Goals
None.
Pitch : Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell: Awful game, created a few chances but poorly shot. Three weeks out and it shows on both sides.
Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman: Not many chances from either team, and was played rather haphazardly. Short flicks missed, long flicks connected without finishing flicks. It was a somewhat of a dreary match. Not surprising given we've been off away for so long.
Fri Apr 30: League Cup Round 2: Inventus 0 v Wayner Bremen 1 (HT 0-0)
Goals
Second half
0-1 5:26 Wayner Bremen.
Pitch : Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Wayner Bremen coach: Fun game. I had maybe eight shots but most from bad angles and Kevin made all the saves but one.
Inventus coach Kevin Nieman: Many saves, one fantastic long range steal off a goal flick, yet I still couldn't manage a single shot. Woe is Inventus.
Fri Apr 30: Hollywood Hammers 1 v Simi City 2 (HT 1-0)
Goals
First half
1-0 10:26 Hollywood Hammers.
Second half
1-1 6:58 Simi City
1-2 14:28 Simi City.
Pitch : Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Simi City coach Simon Hutchinson: This was a tough game for City to win. Hammers took the lead with a great goal from their right. I was worried if City could get back into the game if the Hammers started playing all out defense, which they did for the remainder of the first half. City were fortunate to equalize with a goal that hit the feet of the Hammer's goalkeeper, that was lying on the pitch, and for the ball to come to rest just over the line. Second goal was better. I do feel lucky that City got the win.
Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell: Very unlucky, clock stopped at eight minutes and we played on for at least one minute. So was the goal by Simi with 32 seconds left scored in regular time?
Fri Apr 30: Kumba 1 v Valley Irons 1 (HT 0-0)
Goals
Second half
0-1 9:55 Valley Irons
1-1 13:49 Kumba, Irons had stranded their spare goalkeeper
Pitch : Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Valley Irons coach Jason Mitchell: Another awful game. Fair result.
Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson: Boring game actually. Nothing happened for 25 minutes until Jason scored. I was completely looking at something else, Jason tapped the ball over the shooting line, and as I was thinking about which defense flick to make Jason yelled goal and the ball was in the back of my net. Then [I] equalized fairly soon after. Then another stalemate. Go me for being distracted!
Fri Apr 30: Simi City 1 v Wayner Bremen 2 (HT 1-1)
Goals
First half
1-0 1:31 Simi City
1-1 14:50 Wayner Bremen.
Second half
1-2 0:53 Wayner Bremen.
Pitch : Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Wayner Bremen coach Wayne Smith: Tough match. I had a ton of shots in the first half. Some where saved without the keeper knowing anything about it. Simon's goal was terrific... up the right wing with a touch that made it impossible to miss. He scored before I even got my hand on the keeper.
Simi City coach Simon Hutchinson: A truly fantastic start by City. A quick break, through the defense, and a goal. Then they had most of the play for the next five minutes before the tide turned. From then on they hung on as long as they could against the sustained pressure from Wayner. City could have played all out defense to frustrate their opponents. But they made the decision to keep on attacking when they had the ball, and left a few figures forward in the hope of a second break and a goal which would have surely killed the game off. After the Wayners scored their second goal City did have a lot more time with the ball, but squandered it as they could not connect with the last flick.
Fri Apr 30: Inventus 0 v Red Star 1 (HT 0-0)
Goals
Second half
0-1 5:54 Red Star, Iventus stranded their spare goalkeeper.
Pitch : Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Inventus coach Kevin Nieman: Heartbreak in the form of an out of position goalkeeper. I felt good in my flicks and had some sustained offense, but Simon took advantage of my mistake. Typical of this season for me.
Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson: With Inventus' return to form as Kevin has got use to his new bases this was a critical match for the Reds to win. Both offenses had trouble with their final flicks, squandering many good opportunities. Both goalkeepers made critical saves. I do feel if this had been a home game and Inventus had been using a smaller goalkeeper some of the Reds shots would have been goals. I cannot remember how Kevin stranded his keeper, I think he played the ball onto one of the Red's attackers near the edge of the penalty box. Two touches by one figure to line up the second for the shot. I knew I had to take my time with the shot to score otherwise the game would end 0-0. My heart was in my mouth as I flicked and scored.
Was this a fair result? Probably not, but an essential win.
Fri May 7: Inventus 1 v Kumba 0 (HT 1-0)
Goals
First half
1-0 12:41 Inventus - Kumba's back left Inventus with an easy shot at
goal.
Pitch : Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson: Pretty interesting game. Kevin and I were evenly matched. We both had a hard time flicking in the first half, but by the second Kevin scored a goal from dead center. His touch is definitely improving.
Inventus coach Kevin Nieman: I didn't have consistency enough to finish my offensive chances, but did have the run of play. Dominic made one fantastic save that was the best I've seen him make. My lone goal was due to an opening in Dominic's defense and a relatively straight shot. I think I was fortunate to win this one.
Fri May 7: Red Star 2 v Inventus 1 (HT 1-0)
Goals
First half
1-0 10:20 Red Star.
Second half
2-0 2:05 Red Star
2-1 10:56 Inventus.
Pitch : Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Inventus coach Kevin Nieman: I am happy to have a scored a fluky goal at an impossible angle, but the Reds have my number today.
Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson: The opening of the game was very even with lots of back and forth, end to end play. The game changed after the first goal, which was a shot from the right following a back on Inventus' defender. The second was a deliberate deflection off a defender from a strange angle. Fortunately the ball stayed low and went under Inventus' goalkeeper. Inventus' goal was a shot from their left that the Red's goalkeeper pushed into his own goal. Another good win for the Reds to keep them in the race for second place.
Fri May 7: Left Hannover the Table 96 2 v Kumba 0 (HT 0-0)
Goals
Second half
1-0 9:55 Left Hannover
2-0 12:16 Left Hannover.
Pitch : Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Left Hannover coach Wayne Smith: For almost 25 minutes Dominic played very good defense. It was difficult to get a good shot. Dominic also played a little offense and didn't play with eleven players back.
Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson: Actually a good game, kind of fell apart toward the end of the second half. I think I played well, was expecting a much worse result.
Fri May 7: Simi City 1 v Kumba 1 (HT 1-0)
Goals
First half
1-0 7:47 Simi City.
Second half
1-1 11:54 Kumba.
Pitch : Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Kumba coach: Played decently, both goals were almost given to each other. His was a close goal with almost the possibility of missing, while I scored on a stranded spare goalie. Then Simon pushed nine figures up and accomplished nothing.
Simi City coach Simon Hutchinson: Very disappointed for this game to have ended as a draw. City had the lion's share of possession, shots, and so many corners I lost count of them. They should have scored enough goals to make it impossible for Kumba to get back into the game. Then a stupid spare goalkeeper miss gave Kumba a simple straight shot at a wide open goal.
Fri May 7: Inventus 0 v Left Hannover the Table 96 0
Goals
None.
Pitch : Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley
Comments:
Left Hannover coach Wayne Smith: Both of us had one terrific shot and both of us had one terrific save. 0-0 is it.
Inventus coach Kevin Nieman: My defense worked hard to stop Left Hannover, and for once I was successful. A draw feels like a win when it's against Wayne's left hand.
