Notes

The first player is the "home" player, the second player was the "away" player and had to use the small Subbuteo or Zeugo style goalkeeper.

Fri Mar 12: League Cup Round 2: Left Hannover the Table 96 1 v Valley Irons 0 (HT 0-0)

Left Hannover the Table 96 v Valley Irons

Goals
Second half
1-0  14:39  Left Hannover the Table 96.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Valley Irons coach Jason Mitchell:  One of the best games I have played against Wayne.  I did not deserve to lose but I did and thats that.

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  I was rather out of practice left-handed, and Jason played brilliantly with his light weights [bases].  The result was Jason outplaying me for the entire match.  I had a good chance in the first half, but missed weakly, and ripped one off the post in the second half.  My goal was only my third chance of the match.  Jason had numerous chances, but didn't get the ball on goal much.  My first save was after only 1:30.  Other than that Jason's shots were mostly blocked by my defenders forcing corners.  I really lucked out to win this one.

Fri Mar 12: League Cup Round 2: Hollywood Hammers 0 v Red Star 1 (HT 0-1)

Hollywood Hammers v Red Star

Goals
First half
0-1  2:22  Red Star.

Pitch :  Fast Pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell:  I lost to the flukiest goal ever.

Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson:  A quickly taken goal for the win.  I think the shot hit the crossbar, rather than was saved.  The ball dropped down and fortunately the figure that took the shot was still moving into the "six yard" box, the ball bounced off its head and into the goal.  From that point the Hammers pushed forward in numbers, and forced the Reds to defend in numbers.  There were a few breaks at the end, but the Reds squandered their chances.  Roll on the semi finals.

Fri Mar 12: Red Star 0 v Left Hannover the Table 96 2 (HT 0-1)

Red Star v Left Hannover the Table 96

Goals
First half
0-1  12:16  Left Hannover 96.
Second half
0-2  9:43  Left Hannover 96

Pitch :  Fast Pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson:  It was a tough game for the Reds.  They had possession, but were continuously frustrated by the Lefties defense.  The Reds had a few of shots at goal, and struck the post twice in the first half.

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  I didn't get many chances, but took the few I had as both goals were chipped over the goalkeeper.   I left some large gaps in my defense and missed many defensive flicks but always managed one good defensive flick at the last second to save my behind.  I am very happy with the result.

Fri Mar 26: Valley Irons 0 v Red Star 4 (HT 0-1)

Valley

Goals
First half
0-1  3:38  Red Star.
Second half
0-2  5:08  Red Star
0-3  9:52  Red Star
0-4  12:23  Red Star - Mercy rule game stopped.

Pitch :  Fast Pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Valley Iron coach Jason Mitchell:  This is turning into the worst season ever!

Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson:  A good start of the night for the Reds.  I think the Irons were rusty with their long flicks, and it meant the Reds could keep a lot of the possession in their opponent's half.  The Reds shooting was weak in the first half.  After a good team talk at half time the shooting improved.  After the third goal the Irons pushed everyone up to the half way line.  The Reds defense pushed the ball through the mass of players in the middle of the pitch.  Two touches from the lone striker pushed the ball into the Irons' shooting zone.  He struck the post with his third flick, the ball bounced out, hit the back of the Irons' keeper, and went into the goal.

Fri Mar 26: Kumba 0 v Left Hannover the Table 96 1 (HT 0-0)

Kumba v Left Hannover the Table 96

Goals
Second half
0-1  8:03  Left Hannover the Table 96.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  Tough match.  Dom was jittery after a gallon of Dr Pepper and had half a dozen double flicks.  Defensively he was pretty good, offensively he had almost no chances.  I had a number of chances but missed.  The misses were force because Dom kept me pushed outside, except for my only goal.

Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson:  We played relatively well, but we both sucked at shooting.  The game [possession] was about 70/30 Wayne.  A very even game, but very fast paced.

Fri Mar 26: Valley Irons 1 v Inter Nieman 1 (HT Valley Irons v Inter Nieman 1-1)

Goals
First half
0-1  8:40  Inter Nieman
1-1  13:22  Valley Irons.

Pitch :  Fast Pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman:  I scored first, Jason scored next, and despite a mutual thought that this would be the worst Subbuteo match in history... um, well, it comes pretty darn close [laughs].

Valley Irons coach Jason Mitchell:  The goal I scored shocked Kevin, myself, and the photographer.  It equalized a goal from Kevin that I helped into the net.  A very dull game.

Fri Mar 26: Kumba 0 v Red Star 1 (HT 0-1)

Kunba v Red Star

Goals
First half
0-1  13:33  Red Star.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Red Star coach Red Star:  A good second game for the Reds.  I think my team had more shots on goal than they had in the previous game.  Kumba's goalkeeper came up big to keep the score at only 0-1.

Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson:  Definitely played badly, but for some reason I can not have a good offense today.  Oh well, at least my defense prevented from being higher [score].

Second half
2-0  3:37  Left Hannover the Table 96
3-0  13:30  Left Hannover the Table 96.

Pitch :  Fast Pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  Kevin isn't the same without caffeine! [Kevin gave up drinking sodas with caffeine in them before the start of this season]

Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman:  My physio denies that there have been any enhanced drugs in my system.  I'm clean... and I suck at the moment.

Kumba v Hollywood Hammers

Goals
First half
0-1  14:55  Hollywood Hammers.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell:  Relieved to get a win, totally dominated the game with at least six corners, dominated the second half with nine players forward, and it worked but only just.

Kumba coach Dominic Hutchinson:  Ugh... I cannot shoot!  This is very annoying considering I had around seven shots.  At least this is my last game of the night.

Fri Mar 26: Red Star 1 v Inter Nieman 0 (HT 1-0)

Red Star v Inter Nieman

Goals
First half
1-0  11:03  Red Star.

Pitch :  Fast Pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Red Star coach Simon Hutchinson:  It is more important to grind out a win, rather than win pretty.  As goal difference is not used this season a 1-0 is all the Reds needed.  The Reds had a lot of possession and shots but, alas, could only get the better of Inter's goalkeeper just once.

Inter Nieman coach Kevin Nieman:  Simon had the run of play, and I hate Hasbro bases.  It's official.  I am hopeless with these bases. [Kevin's and Simon's B teams, Inter Nieman and Red Star, are on Hasbro bases]

Fri Mar 26: Hollywood Hammers 1 v Left Hannover the Table 96 3 (HT 0-1)

Hollywood Hammers v Left Hannover the Table 96

Goals
First half
0-1  9:17  Left Hannover the Table 96.
Second half
0-2  9:05  Left Hannover the Table 96
1-2  13:59  Hollywood Hammers
1-3  14:45  Left Hannover the Table 96.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Left Hannover the Table 96 coach Wayne Smith:  Right before I scored my first goal Jason threw six players up.  He did that too early because I found a gap [in his defense] and scored.  My second goal was a nice shot to the upper right corner, but it was truly against the run of play as Jason was taking shot after shot against me.  He only force two saves despite about six shots.  With a minute left , Jason scored.  At this point he had had six players up for about 25 minutes, and had blasted seven or eight shots at my goal.

Hollywood Hammers coach Jason Mitchell:  Oh well and the season goes on.
