Notes

The first player is the "home" player, the second player was the "away" player and had to use the small Subbuteo or Zeugo style goalkeeper.

Fri Sep 4: Simon Hutchinson 3 v Jason Mitchell 0 (HT 0-0)

Simon Hutchinson 3 v Jason Mitchell 0

Goals
Second half
1-0  7:27  Simon
2-0  8:48  Simon
3-0  12:43  Simon.

Pitch :  Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Jason:  Never a 3-0 game, I defended well and passed well.  I struck the post at 0-0.  I think using the small goalkeeper was the cause of two goals.  It was a good performance even though a defeat.

Simon:  The first half was very even.  I did strike the foot of the far post early in the game.  Thereafter, my offense seemed to peter out.  I started the second half more aggressively and scored.  After the goal Jason pushed forward in numbers, leaving large gaps at the back. My second came from a long, quick,  pass upfront and he did not have enough  players to block me from pushing the ball over the line with one player and scoring with the other.  The third came from another quick break, this time he had more of a defense.

I am glad to start the season with a win.

Fri Sep 4: Jason Mitchell 3 v Dominic Hutchinson 0 (HT 0-0)

Goals
First half
1-0  8:25  Jason.
Second half
2-0  2:12  Jason
3-0  9:07  Jason.

Pitch :  Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Jason:  I took my chances and could have easily doubled my score, this was probably Dominic's worst game he has played against me.  It was one way traffic for the whole game.

Dominic:  My shots were way off.  I could not play to save my life.  Jason played well, but his third shot [goal] was lucky.

Fri Sep 4: Kevin Nieman 0 v Simon Hutchinson 0

Goals
None.

Pitch :  Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Kevin:  We had a very even match.  Very frustrating in that I had good flicks.  With two seconds left I tried a last desperate shot which went wide.  I had no saves and no shots, but my flicking was good.

Simon:  In my opinion I had the edge with more shots, not all of them were close to the goal.  Kevin's goalkeeper did make several saves.  A bit disappointed not to have scored, but the result was a fair reflection of the game.  At least it was an "away" point against Kevin.

Fri Sep 4: Kevin Nieman 3 v Jason Mitchell 0 (HT 1-0)

Kevin Nieman 3 v Jason Mitchell 0

Goals
First half
1-0  0:41  Kevin.
Second half
2-0  11:05  Kevin
3-0  14:38  Kevin.

Pitch :  Pumpkin Patch, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Kevin:  Incredibly fortunate to go 3-0 versus a guy I expected to be lucky to draw against.  I scored early, and the rest of the match was Jason pushing hard into my end.  He had his chances, but since he had little defense, once I won the ball back, I had a wide open pitch.  I do feel bad for Jason as I have been in his place.  I expect him to bring his best in my "away" match.

Jason:  Cannot believe I lost 3-0 for the second time tonight.  Felt my passing was great tonight, I created chances but failed 'miserably'.  I pushed forward and a defensive mistake me as Kevin made it 2-0.  I pushed all of my players forward but to no avail.

Fri Sep 11: Wayne Smith 5 v Dominic Hutchinson 0 (HT 2-0)

Wayne Smith 5 v Dominic Hutchinson 0

Goals
First half
1-0  3:33  Wayne
2-0  12:20  Wayne.
Second half
3-0  1:59  Wayne
4-0  5:34  Wayne
5-0  14:54  Wayne.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Wayne:  I was flicking really well and got every lucky bounce.  My last goal was a roller off a goal flick.  Dominic was flicking well, too, but couldn't back up his flicks with more possession.

Dominic:  I feel I played well, but when playing Wayne I know I'm going to lose.  I felt that Wayne was lucky with his goals.  And now that he is warmed I pity the next guy.

Fri Sep 11: League Cup first round: Jason Mitchell 1 v Simon Hutchinson 0 (AET, FT 0-0)

League Cup 1st round: extra time: Jason Mitchell 1 v Simon Hutchinson 0

Goals
Extra time
1-0  12:18  Jason.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Jason:  A great defensive display.  Great goalkeeping and an attack through the middle which resulted in the winner.  A great victory.

Simon:  I was robbed!  I had almost all of the shots on goal, and the lion's share of possession.  I had four shots on goal in the first half that Jason needed to save, and struck the post.  In the second I had another five goal bound shots he had to save.  Even in the Extra Time I forced two saves and struck the post.  If he had been the "away" player, with the small goalkeeper, it would have been a high scoring game.

Well now I have to concentrate on the league [rehashing the old football manager's quote].

Fri Sep 11: Simon Hutchinson 3 v Dominic Hutchinson 1 (HT 2-0)

Goals
First half
1-0  4:10  Simon
2-0  12:15  Simon.
Second half
2-1  0:07  Dominic
3-1  6:25  Simon.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Dominic:  Good game, nothing special except the seven second goal.  From the kick off shot the ball through a gap in his defensive line,  with the other guy taking the kick off, and into the back of the net.

Simon:  I finally got my offense moving and shooting against Dominic.  I took the first goal at speed and Dominic did not have his hand on his goalkeeper.  I exploited the gaps in his defense for the second.  Dominic shocked me with his goal at the start of the second half, I did not have time to get my hand on my goalie or do a blocking flick.  The third [goal] came after relentless pressure was rewarded with a chip over his goalie.

Fri Sep 11: Wayne Smith 5 v Kevin Nieman 1 (HT 3-0)

Goals
First half
1-0  6:20  Wayne
2-0  13:20  Wayne
3-0  14:39  Wayne.
Second half
4-0  5:40  Wayne
5-0  6:36  Wayne
5-1  10:44  Kevin.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Kevin:  "Wayne scores!" those words will echo in my head in tonight's nightmares no matter how many vodka tonics I drink later.  My only goal was due to defensive indifference and the echoes of "Wayne scores!" are already in my psyche.

Wayne:  I was flicking well, shooting well, and scoring a lot.  That about sums it up.

Fri Sep 11: Jason Mitchell 3 v Wayne Smith 2 (HT 2-1)

Jason Mitchell 3 v Wayne Smith 2

Goals
First half
1-0  10:16  Jason
1-1  11:54  Wayne
2-1  13:55  Jason.
Second half
2-2  9:53  Wayne
3-2  12:32  Jason.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Wayne:  Jason's offense was amazing!  I think he has only four shots, but all were from good angles and all were hit high and hard, except for the second goal.  I had plenty of chances, but hit a ton of posts, which isn't good enough.

Jason:  Amazing result, best performance ever.  I took my chances with superb finishing and great defending.  For me to beat Wayne is an unbelievable result that shocks Season 8!

Editor:  The last time Wayne conceded three goals was in Season 2, in 1999, when he was beaten by John Schultz 3-0 and 4-1.

Fri Sep 11: Simon Hutcinson 4 v Kevin Nieman 1 (HT 3-0)

Simon Hutchinson 4 v Kevin Nieman 1

Goals
First half
1-0  2:35  Simon
2-0  4:21  Simon
3-0  6:17  Simon.
Second half
3-1  10:49  Kevin
4-1  13:08  Simon.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Kevin:  The nightmare of "Wayne scores" from my previous match has now been added with "Simon scores".  Don't know what happened, but I didn't show up tonight.  I'm considering getting my flicking finger replaced.  Anyone know how Zach will charge for his flicking finger? [Zach Walker is the currently ranked the number 1 player in the ASA]

Simon:  A great game.  My offense really came together in the first half, scoring three goals in what felt like quick succession.  The second half I took my foot off the gas, which is something I do too often, and it showed as Kevin came back into the game.  I even managed to mess up the opportunity to score into an open goal when he had stranded his spare goalkeeper.  After he scored his goal I stepped it up again for the remainder of the game.
