Notes

The first player is the "home" player, the second player was the "away" player and had to use the small Subbuteo or Zeugo style goalkeeper.

Fri Apr 17, 09: Kevin Nieman 1 v Dominic Hutchinson 0 (HT 1-0)

Goals
First half
11:17  1-0  Kevin

Pitch :  Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Dominic:  I thought I played decent, nothing too special.  Kevin and I couldn't string together six flicks in a row.  I got two shots .  I hit the goalkeeper and it [the ball] went out for a corner.  The other hit the post and stopped.

Kevin:  Typical first game of the day with silly missed flicks.  But as I was getting my flicking going I was getting better.  At about time I scored from the right.  The rest of the game I was frustrated by lack of offensive consistency.

Goals
None.

Pitch :  Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Munir:  It as a pretty entertaining game.  At least I had fun  It was an up and down game.  I felt like I have more high quality shots that I usually do.

Kevin:  Frustrating game.  Back and forth with offense on both sides.  Bizarre rebounds.

Fri Apr 17, 09: League Cup semi final second leg
Wayne Smith 1 v Kevin Nieman 0 (HT 1-0) aggregate 4-2

Goals
First half
1-0  6:34  Wayne.

Pitch :  Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Kevin:  I think despite the fact that I lost this game I didn't feel overwhelmed by Wayne's offense.  But it was clearly better and congrats to Wayne in [reaching] the final.

Wayne:  I felt that I had control of the game as Kevin had to win 2-0 to go through [to the final].  Once I scored it seemed unlikely I would cave in at that point.

Wed Apr 22, 09: Kevin Nieman 1 v Wayne Smith 0 (HT 1-0)

Goals
First half
11:14  1-0  Kevin

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Wayne:  Five posts and three saves, eight squandered opportunities and no goals.  Kevin's goalkeeper was doing a great job covering the goal.  Kevin did a series of brilliant flicks from his defensive zone to my shooting zone and he would touch up [to the ball].

My offense was excellent, my passing was excellent, but I could not get.  I kept my composure, I felt, really well.  Only with about 15 seconds left did I feel the skin crawling off my arms in frustration.  And I managed not to break any balls today.

Kevin played really, really well.

Kevin:  This is my second win against Wayne.  I am very happy.  I felt relaxed, when normally I feel panicked as Wayne presses through my defense.

Wayne:  I think that came from total confidence I would mess up the shot.

Kevin:  Wayne was playing his usual excellent style, but the difference I felt was when I gained possession I held it for longer than normal.  I was afraid to miss flicks and I took advantage of my best opportunity to score.  After my goal it was an all out assault on my goal by Wayne.  If it had not been for the goal post and crossbar it might have been a very different story.  And it is good to beat Wayne.

Note:  This is the Wayne's first defeat in a season since losing in Season 3, when he played left handed, to Steve Tucker on September 3, 2005.

Wed Apr 22, 09: Wayne Smith 4 v Kevin Nieman 0 (HT 2-0)

Goals
First half
3:22  1-0  Wayne
12:27  2-0  Wayne.
Second half
2:32  3-0  Wayne
11:26  4-0  Wayne

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Kevin:  It was Wayne's revenge for the first game, and if Wayne had had better breaks then both games would have been like this game.  I did not have the offense, or frankly the defense, to stop Wayne, and he pretty much scored at will.

Wayne:  The natural order of things has been restored and the nation is safe.

The whole idea of the home field advantage was to create more upsets.  It has done that in spades.  And it makes the whole league substationally more interesting.  I felt the slower pitch really threw Kevin's touch off.  He was absolutely brilliant on the Fast pitch.  But his flicks fell short on the Mawra.

Fri Apr 24, 09: Jason Mitchell 0 v Kevin Nieman 2 (HT 1-0)

Jason Mitchell v Kevin Nieman

Goals
First half
14:24  0-1  Kevin.
Second half
7:15  0-2  Kevin.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Kevin:  I felt the flicks were there, and both of my opportunities were taking advantage of holes in Jason's defense.  After my goal Jason was really bearing down and had some great opportunities.  I am fortunate to have kept it as a shut out.

Jason:  I conceded two soft goals, as always.  I had my most shorts in a match, but the post kept denying me a goal.  I deserved a draw.

Fri Apr 24, 09: Munir Merchant 0 v Dominic Hutchinson 0 (HT 0-0)

Munir Merchant v Dominic Hutchinson

Goals
None.

Pitch :  Fast pitch, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Munir:  A pretty good game.  I had a number of good shots and Dominic had some saves.  Dominic had a couple of really good shots too.  It was a meandering game.

Dominic:  I felt I played actually pretty good.  My [two] shots should have gone in.  My first I took from the right side, Munir brought his goalkeeper down trapping the ball between the goalkeeper and the post.  The second one was another shot from the right, it hit the goalkeeper's rod and went out for a throw.

Fri Apr 24, 09: Steve Tucker 2 v Kevin Nieman 1 (HT 2-1)

Goals
First half
10:21  0-1  Kevin
11:37  1-1  Steve
13:50  2-1  Steve.

Pitch :  Mawra, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Kevin:  All the scoring was in the first half.  After my only goal Steve woke up and dominated the rest of the match.

Steve:  Other than Wayne I have not played anyone else in the club with that many consistent flicks.  I was takings for granted, but he was getting them all.  At the end I got more scoring chances.  He hit the post a couple of times and my laying [down] goalkeeper.  If his defensive flicks would have been as good it would have been a different game.

Fri Apr 24, 09: Steve Tucker 1 v Jason Mitchell 1 (HT 0-0)

Steve Tucker v Jason Mitchell

Goals
Second half
5:16  1-0  Steve
13:43  1-1 Jason.

Pitch :  Fast, Porter Ranch

Comments:

Steve:  Good game.  Jason played for the draw, he was looking for 0-0.  When he got scored on he came back for the 1-1 draw.

Jason:  I came for the draw.  I held Steve for most of the game.  When I conceded [the goal] I pushed players forward which resulted in my best goal ever.  Steve's goalkeeper did not move as it slowly drifted into the far right corner.

Comments:

Munir:  Most of the game was in my half.  I did not have much play at all.  Steve was bearing down all game.

Steve:  I think this is the best game I have played against Munir for a long time.  Other games are always close, but tonight I had his number.
