Notes

The first player is the "home" player, the second player was the "away" player and had to use the small Subbuteo or Zeugo style goalkeeper.

Fri Feb 27, 09: League Cup First round second leg
Simon Hutchinson 1 v Munir Merchant 0 (HT 1-0) aggregate 2-0

Simon Hutchinson v Munir Merchant

Goals
First half
1-0  9:10 Simon.  Shot from right past the small goalkeeper

Pitch :  Rookery, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Simon:  After I scored I decided it was more important to retain possession and not risk conceding two goals.  I was successful in that regard but I felt I took the "guts" out of the game.

Munir did strand his [spare] goalkeeper with two minute left.  All I could do is knock off the spare goalkeeper then off one of my attackers and out for a goal kick.

Semi finals here I come.

Munir:  [Describing the goal] My goalie was in the right position, I just let it roll right underneath him.

It was better than we normally play, a little more offense, and a better game than I played last week.

Fri Feb 27, 09: League Cup First first leg
Steve Tucker 1 v Dominic Hutchinson 0 (HT 0-0)

Steve Tucker v Dominic Hutchinson

Goals
Second half
1-0  9:30 Steve.  Penalty

Pitch :  Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Steve:  I was a little rusty.  Dominic had very good flicks.  I pushed guys forward but he had very a good defense.  Then came Mr Sticky that foiled my play.

Dominic had a few good counter attacks as I pushed forward.  He had a couple of shots but not on target.  He could not get it lined up.

It took a penalty for my goal.  The rest of the time Dominic played good defense.

Dominic:  Hmm, I felt actually it went very well with the tiny goalkeeper.  I made three saves.  I could have done better offensively.  But Mr Sticky made it so Steve could not win by a bigger margin.

Fri Feb 27, 09: Kevin Nieman 2 v Jason Mitchell 0 (HT 0-0)

Kevin Nieman v Jason Mitchell

Goals
Second half
1-0  10:13  Kevin
2-0  14:59  Kevin

Pitch :  Rookery, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Kevin:  I was surprised at how well I was flicking.  I attribute that to a long index finger nail.  I think it helped my control and my flicks were consistent and calm.

I think my second goal was a rush on my part.  I think it was more luck that I was able to second goal.  But Jason had his offense and his chances and I did save one that was a really good shot.

When he took his shot I noticed my keeper was high and his shot was low.  I just dropped my keeper to save.

Jason:  I thought it was an even game.  As the old English saying goes "I could not score in a brothel".

It looks like I am going to come bottom.  One goal in four games, three defeats, and one draw.  I am West Ham!

Dominic Hutchinson 0 v Steve Tucker 3 (HT 0-1) aggregate 0-4

Dominic Hutchinson v Steve Tucker

Goals
First half
1-0  13:15  Steve
Second half
2-0  6:42  Steve
3-0  14:23  Steve

Pitch :  Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Dominic:  I felt it was worse than the last game.  My defense was half as good, offense about a third as good.  The only shot I got hit the crossbar.

I could not defend.  The physiological advantage of him having the small goalkeeper did not help much.

Steve:  I felt I played a much better game than the other game.  I found my touch in the second half.  Even though he had some good flicks at the start he got increasingly desperate and did not make so good flicks by the end.

Fri Feb 27, 09: Munir Merchant 1 v Kevin Nieman 0 (HT 1-0)

Goals
First half
1-0  5:42  Munir

Pitch :  Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Kevin:  The first half was a story of small flicks and excellent defensive flicks on both sides.  After three minutes of midfield paralysis Munir ran down the right and shot over my keeper.  That ended up being the deciding factor as the offense was wide open without any more chances.

Munir:  Incredibly tight game decided by a few blocking flicks,  The scrum was important even in shots.  Kevin had more midfield possession.  Out games are kinda strange.  It's interesting as there were good opportunities and lots of good defensive flicks.  A very tense match.

Fri Feb 27, 09: Simon Hutchinson 1 v Jason Mitchell 0 (HT 1-0)

Goals
First half
1-0  5:37  Simon

Pitch :  Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Jason:  Another defeat.

Simon:  I am glad to get the win.  I felt I was unlucky not to get more goals.  Part of it was Jason's great defensive flicks, the rest was my missing the flick at the crucial moment.  I am glad to get my second win, and my first double.

Fri Mar 6, 09: Dominic Hutchinson 1 v Adam Carlson 0 (HT 1-0)

Goals
First half
1-0  13:14  Dominic.

Pitch :  Rookery, Maricopa, Simi Valley

The "first" second half ended with a disputed goal scored with about two seconds left.  Adam was sure that his shot was legitimate and the goal should count.  Dominic was equally positive that Adam's figure had struck one of his before hitting the ball, therefore, he should have had a free kick and the goal be disallowed.  As there was not a referee the truth could not be determined.  After five minutes of arguing it was decided that the second half should be replayed with a referee.

Comments:

Adam:  I thought I played well for not playing in a few weeks.  I kept scattering my defense, which was not good, but other than that it was good.

Dominic:  I felt I played pretty well, I could and should have done better.  I felt that the goal I had was skilful with enough luck to make it go in.

I felt the outcome of the game was pretty bad because Adam could not agree on a goal, and we had to play the second half again.  I held out for the second half.  I felt it was unnecessary.

Fri Mar 6, 09: League Cup First round first leg
Wayne Smith 1 v Jason Mitchell 0 (HT 0-0)

Goals
Second half
1-0  11:55  Wayne.

Pitch :  Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Jason's best chance came fairly early when Wayne's stranded his goalkeeper.  Jason hit the post and could not put in the rebound.  Wayne then did the same thing.

Jason's defense was stifling, not allowing Wayne a shot on goal until a few minutes in the second half.  Mitchell's defensive flicks, combined with making sure that the ball always had a player around it, was giving Smith fits.  Once Wayne got that first shot, the shots started coming in, forcing five excellent saves.  Finally with 3:05 left, Wayne got the ball at the top of the penalty area, touched up and rolled the ball under Jason's goalkeeper's arms.  The goalkeeper got his arm on the ball just before it rolled in.  Wayne kept trying to attack, but Jason tried to tie the game making long, desperate passes.

Comments:

Jason:  This must be one of the best games I have ever played, I had excellent possession.  My defense held out until just three minutes left.  I thought I deserved the draw.

Wayne:  The best I have seen Jason play.  Jason's comments were spot on.  His tactic of keeping players around the ball was brilliant.  When he lost possession, I rarely had a [unobstructed] flick at the ball.

Fri Mar 6, 09: Adam Carlson 2 v Simon Hutchinson 1 (HT 1-0)

Adam Carlson v Simon Hutchinson

Goals
First half
1-0  7:01  Adam, shot from tight angle near right edge of "six yard" box chipped over small goalkeeper and into the top corner.
Second half
1-1  1:42  Simon, a quickly taken shot from the right side.
2-1  7:09  Adam, shot from the right penalty area chipped over small goalkeeper into top of goal just below cross bar.

Pitch :  Rookery, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Adam:  I played very well in that game.  I think it was the best game I have ever played.

The goals felt great, both by somewhat my skill.

Simon:  I felt very frustrated by this game and by Adam's defensive flicks and good goalkeeping.  His two goals took advantage of me having the small goalkeeper to chip the ball where I could not reach.

The telling period was the last five minutes of the first half when I besieged his goal and forced him to make six saves of goal bound shots.

I continued pressed in the second half and scored a quick goal from the right.  From then I pushed numbers forward to try to make my way, unsuccessfully, around Adam's defense.

His second goal was well taken.  Come to think of it he only had three shots on target, two goals and I saved the other.

I am disappointed by the result, but Adam deserved the win.

Fri Mar 6, 09: Dominic Hutchinson 0 v Jason Mitchell 1 (HT 0-0)

Dominic Hutchinson v Jason Mitchell

Goals
Second half
1:23  0-1  Jason, shot from left side.

Pitch :  Drey, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Jason:  At last a victory.  I thought I deserved the victory.  I felt I had most of the possession.  I have played better than that and lost.

Dominic:  I felt I could have played a lot better.  The pitch was not the problem, although it was stickier [than the Rookery].  I will not blame the pitch, I will blame I need to flick around some more before games.

Fri Mar 6, 09: Wayne Smith 6 v Adam Carlson 0 (HT 2-0)

Goals
First half
4:35  1-0  Wayne
12:05  2-0  Wayne
Second half
3:40  3-0  Wayne
7:09  4-0  Wayne
11:02  5-0  Wayne
14:00  6-0 Wayne.

Pitch :  Rookery, Maricopa, Simi Valley

Comments:

Wayne:  I'm much happier playing on the Rookery that the Drey, as the score would show.  Adam made four incredible flicks, but they were way too few and far between.

Adam:  Horrible game.
