Fri Sep 20, 08: Kevin Nieman 1 Munir Merchant 3

It was the classic "game of two halves".  For the first nine minutes of the first half Munir was completely dominant scoring three goals.  The first was from a turnover on the left wing, he pushed the ball over the line and rolled the ball into the far corner.  The second came from the right, he cut around the defense and shot, striking a defender, and the ball flew into the near side of the goal.   His last goal came from the right wing again, a quick touch and blast into the far side of the goal.

The second half was all Kevin.  In the first minute Kevin struck the goal post.  It was not until the fifth minute that he pulled a goal back, from a free kick just inside the "D".  After the goal Kevin was continuously frustrated by the accuracy of Munir's defensive flicks blocking his attack.

Wayne: It is hard to score on Munir.

Munir: It hard to get a shot on Wayne.

Wayne:  Time after time I put the ball in a great position and he would make a flick to shut the play down.

Simon:  I am disappointed to have had the ball so many times in the shooting zone, but had so little chances.

Munir:  [The game was] Pretty intense.

Wayne:  That was the most intense game I have seen you involved in.

Fri Sep 20, 08: Kevin Nieman 1 v Simon Hutchinson 2

Another close encounter between these two players.  Simon scored first with a penalty, Kevin had made an illegal flick, in the seventh minute.  Kevin equalized before half time.

As the second half wore on it looked like the game was going to end as a tie.  Then Simon took a corner on the left and shot into the far post with about one and half minutes left.  Kevin tried all out attack for the remaining time but he could not retain possession long enough to get another chance.

Comments:

Kevin:  The offense was more on Simon's side.  An errant flick would gave me possession and I would press quickly down the field to try for a shot.

When he took the lead it caught me off guard.  So I was really bearing down to score, so when I got the opportunity I think I struck the ball as hard as I've struck the ball.

Obviously disappointed in giving up the final goal.  I'm looking to equalize on the return game.

Simon:  I am very relieved to get my first win this season.  It was very intense up to the last few seconds as I could not relax and let Kevin have another shot at my goal.

The first half was a lot of play in midfield.  Adam had more of the attack as Dominic tried playing long balls, but played them too hard making them go out for goal kicks.

Second half
06:02 0- 1 Dominic goal.  Adam missed flick to change possession.
14:18 Adam shot, save.  "Big" save from a shot taken from straight on to the goal.
Adam has most of the possession again in the second half as Dominic struggled to keep possession and attack.  Dominic scored from his only attack and shot at goal.

Comments:

Dominic:  It was a fun game.  Iexpected to win by more than one though.  Adam had great offense and decent defense.  Either I got really lucky or my play is better [than Adam's].

Adam:  There was a lot back and forth, going across the field.

Wayne: Worse game of the season.  Dominic hit the ball out for fifteen goal kicks.  Dominic really had one attack in the game and scored.

Wayne:  Adam's goalkeeping was really good.  In fact he made a save without knowing I had made the shot.  Really impressive.

Adam:  Wayne was way to good for me.

Simon: As expected the game was all Wayne on attack.  A played well, better than we expected.

Comments:

Simon:  I had a lot of possession and I managed to take shots from but was frustrated by the time wasting.  Wish I could have got a second [goal].

Dominic:  Pretty good game, I should not have conceded the goal.  Should have had more offense.

Wayne: Simon was so interested in a second goal he left his defense unattended.  But Dominic did not take advantage. He had only one from shot from a very wide angle that had to be saved.

Comments:

Simon:  A bit frustrating as Adam is flicking very well. I felt relieved to have got my second goal, and very lucky to pick up a penalty with a minute left.

Adam:  He scattered my defense and made up for it with his offense.  The second goal was spectacular.

Wayne:  Adam played really well and 0-3 is a bit worse than the run of play.  Adam was still in the game with 3:50 left.
