"I am rather disappointed were are only four players today," organizer Simon Hutchinson explained at the end of this tournament. "This was the smallest Open hosted by the SCSC since 2006." [see here]
"Despite that it was a cracking tournament. All of the games were a lot closer than I would have predicted. Wayne won again, but in the group stage he struggled to get the better of David, and he came back from a goal down to tie with Simon. Even Dominic, who finished in fourth, did very well. He almost beat me in the first round of games, and it took a shoot out for David to beat him in the third place game."
First round of games
Wayne Smith 2 v David Jensen 0
David: An enjoyable game despite the outcome. Wayne got a
nice goal early in the second half and I had to press late in the game which
opened it up for him to get the second goal.
Wayne: That was very difficult. I lucked out by scoring with
11:40 left in the second half. David had forced me way outside and I tried
to shoot quickly before he could set up his keeper. I luckily hammered the
ball high off the far post and in. I was more surprised than David was
because I know that I didn't aim carefully. The second goal was set up by
the first goal. With three minutes left David left a hole in his [defense]
line. I pushed a long ball through and made a long flick which knocked the
ball into the lower corner.
The best chance of the first half was when David got the ball around my line and
shot before I could grab my keeper. His shot was on goal, but my keeper
was lying in the goal mouth and made the save.

Simon Hutchinson 2 v Dominic Hutchinson 1
Dominic: I played a decent game. My figures decided to be a
gymnastic team in the second half [too many of Dominic's attacks broke down
when his flick would propel the figure over the ball or to roll on its side away
from the ball], but at least they worked defensively. The first
half was great because I scored at 2:23. Hit his goalkeeper dead on, ball
spun back, and rolled into his goal. Both of his goals were average, but
both of them were effective.
Simon: A great attack by Dominic resulted in his goal. I did
save the ball with my keeper, and it put enough back spin on the ball for it go
past the keeper again and into the goal. If he played like that for the
rest of the game he would have won it. But just a few minutes later the
ball struck Dominic's hand in his penalty area to give me a penalty. I
made no mistake driving the ball into the top corner of the goal. The
winning goal came with roughly three minutes left in the first half. I had
lots of opportunities for shots on his goal in the second half, but he kept
flicking his figures in the way. I think most of my shots came off his
defenders.
All in all I have to say I am relieved with the win as after that first goal I was
worried he would make it very hard to get a goal. I am sure he will claim
that he left me win as this was my 600th game with the club.

Second round of games
David Jensen 2 v Dominic Hutchinson 1
David: We started the game with a lot of sloppy flicks. I was
able to take advantage of Dominic's players being spread out and got a goal
about half way through the first [half]. I scored again off a
high angle shot and then slowed down the pace of the game. Dominic got a
goal off a corner with less than two minutes left.
Dominic: Didn't play as well as I thought I would. Two good
goals from David. I could not goalkeep myself.

Simon Hutchinson 1 v Wayne Smith 1
Wayne: Simon played well except that his positional flicks were
weak, as were mine. Simon's goal was very good, going straight through the
middle of my [defense] line.
Simon: Probably my best game against Wayne. I took an early
lead in the fourth or fifth minute and kept that slender lead until midway
through the second half. After my goal I was not playing defensively, but
attacking and causing Wayne problems. Despite being disappointed at not
being able to hold my lead, or add another goal, perhaps the score line was fair
as the game was pretty even.

Third round of games
As first plays fourth and second plays third in the semi finals, Dominic needs to beat Wayne and Simon beat David for semi finals not to be a repeat of this round of games.
Simon Hutchinson 1 v David Jensen 0
David: A bit of a frustrating game. I changed to a different team and couldn't
gauge my flicks very well a the start of the game and gave up an early goal.
Simon: David struggled with
his team for this game. The goal was a well taken shot, and I many other
shots that were saved or blocked. David made a couple of dangerous moments
for me, but I was able to blank him out.

Wayne Smith 2 v Dominic Hutchinson 0
Dominic: Not too bad, but I could have played defensively better.
Wayne: Dull match. Dominic had one great shot, I had three.
I managed about eight corner kicks which only managed to kill the clock.

Simon Hutchinson 3 v David Jensen 0
Simon: David was definitely off his game. He used a different
team than he did in our last game and I think that effected the way he played.
His flicking was not as good as the last game, and his goalkeeping failed him
too. I think this is the best result I have had against David in a long
while.
David: Horrible game!

David: Tough game we both lacked motivation in this game and tried
to go for the big play. I got more focused in the shoot out.
Dominic: Definately a boring game. Nothing happened until the
shoot out, which ended in "sudden death". Very poor offensive flicks by
both of us.

Wayne Smith 3 v Simon Hutchinson 0
Wayne: Everything clicked at the right time. It seemed I got
every roll and made every key flick. Simon's positional flicks were
brilliant, but the rest of his game wasn't on.
Simon: Just another typical game against Wayne. He is right
that every roll and bounce seem to go his way. And despite my best efforts
I could not prevent the three goals. The first two were scored from
rolling shots before I could get my hand on the rod of the goalkeeper properly.
Cannot be too disappointed today, as I only lost one game and finished in second
place.
