Introduction
Anzac Day is a national public holiday in Australia and New Zealand, and is commemorated by both countries on April 25 every year to honor members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought during the eight month campaign at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I.
The ANZACs stormed ashore, on what is now called Anzac Beach, on April 25 1915, and were withdrawn on December 19 1915.
Anzac Day was first marked on April 25, 1916.
My Name is Chris Kelly and I live in Adelaide, South Australia. I like to look at websites on the American Subbuteo association site and came across yours. I
would just like to say that I am absolutely stoked to see an ANZAC tournament that's not played on our shores. Its good to see another country
acknowledge the efforts of our country men and women all those years ago. It was these men that defined our country to what it is today. I really look forward
to seeing the results and maybe some pics on you website in the coming days. I hope you all have a good day on Saturday.

Report
Everyone played each other twice, once at "home" and once "away". The "away" player had to use the small Subbuteo/Zeugo style goalkeeper.
Kevin Nieman 1 v David Jensen 0 (HT 1-0)
Goals
First half
8:49 1-0 Kevin.
Pitch: Mawra
David: The small goalkeeper came up big, he had three saves. Kevin had a great shot half way through the first half [to score]. Good game, I need a little more touch on the offense. Can't complain.
Kevin: My long flicks were deadly, and that helped me keep possession long enough to score my only goal. David's offense took advantage of several gaping holes in my defense, but was unable to finish with a quality shot. But I think David's offense was better than he thinks. Had my defensive flicks not been successful I feel David would have won.
Simon Hutchinson 0 v Wayne Smith 1 (HT 0-1)
Goals
First half
5:21 0-1 Wayne.
Pitch: Fast
Wayne: Simon came out trying to attack and instead defended really well. In order to add a second goal I eventually ended up with seven players forward and still could not score. Simon had one excellent chance and my small goalkeeper moved to parry it away. Simon made really good defensive flicks.
Simon: In honor of today I played this game with my all white team, acting as the "All Whites". I did not go into the game defending and wanted to pressure Wayne with three to four figures up front most of the time, Most of the time I could get the ball up to my strikes Wayne would block me from playing the ball forward. Even though it was probably a fair result and I am still disappointed I did not score.
David Jensen 0 v Wayne Smith 2 (HT 0-2)
Goals
First half
4:05 0-1 Wayne
9:45 0-2 Wayne.
Pitch: Mawra
David: I played to keep possession, it worked well but left me open for counters [attacks]. I got some good opportunities but only one good shot on goal.
Wayne: David keeping possession was tough on me. I had only about five shots. He wasn't too dangerous until the last five minutes, but then not only keeping possession, but several corners and good chances. I think he held the ball for about 25 minutes. Both keepers made good saves on hard shots.
Kevin Nieman 0 v Simon Hutchinson 0
Pitch: Fast
Kevin: Very tough match. First half was all Simon. Simon had consistent possession and it was all I could do to keep a clean sheet in the first half. Second half I felt I had better offensive opportunities with several corners but Simon's excellent, and I do mean excellent, defensive flicks prevented any quality scoring chances. It was an exhausting match.
Simon: I am disappointed not to have scored in the first half. I hit the post at least three times and Kevin made two good saves to deny me. The second half was more even, although I felt if I had been able to do the short flicks I would have had the edge.
David Jensen 0 v Simon Hutchinson 1 (HT 0-1)
Goals
First half
0:24 0-1 Simon.
Pitch: Fast
David: Good game except for an unforced error right at the start.
Simon: David gifted me a great shot on goal. From then onwards I felt I had the majority of possessio but could not, yet again, capitalize on it to turn it into goals.
Kevin Nieman 0 v Wayne Smith 3 (HT 0-1)
Goals:
First half
5:02 0-1 Wayne.
Second half
5:02 0-2 Wayne
13:36 0-3 Wayne.
Pitch: Mawra
Kevin: I felt my flicks were accurate enough but Wayne's defense didn't give me a whole lot of opportunities. And his offense completely overwhelmed my game.
Wayne: The way I saw the game and the way Kevin saw the game was completely different. I saw two of my three goals as completely against the run of play. After my first goal I was on my heels the whole game. I thought that was the most one sided 3-0 game I have ever seen, but the team that won was dominated. I spent the last 25 minutes scrambling on defense. Kevin's play has sky rocketed the past two months.
David Jensen 1 v Kevin Nieman 2 (HT 0-1)
Goals
First half
11:28 0-1 Kevin.
Second half
10:09 0-2 Kevin
13:43 1-2 David.
Pitch: Fast
David: Was a really good game, really close. I had a lot of offense and good chances. Finally started shooting well. Gave up a flukey goal at the start, and that was the difference. Kevin once again had incredible long distance flicks. Fun game, I finally got some shots.
Kevin: Very much like Wayne's comments in my game with him. I felt that my goals ran against the run of play. David had so much possession that all my figures were concerned with playing defense. When I actually got possession I had 2/3rds of the field to move the ball down. So my two goals were either long flicks for touch ups or an incredible amount of possession just to touch the ball over the [shooting] line. If I had the amount of possession David had in every game I could rival Wayne.
Wayne Smith 5 v Simon Hutchinson 1 (HT 3-0)
Goals
11:15 1-0 Wayne
13:48 2-0 Wayne
14:41 3-0 Wayne.
Second half
3:41 3-1 Simon
6:53 4-1 Wayne
10:40 5-1 Wayne.
Pitch: Mawra
Wayne: Way more difficult than 5-1 would indicate. My counter attacks and shooting was spot on, and they had to be as I could not get a sustained attack.
Simon: Felt the game was closer that the score suggests. I think I dragged the last three goals into my goal with the small goalkeeper. If I had been using my usual goalkeeper I think I would have saved most of the goals. I did not defend in numbers, I kept attacking. If I had closed up my defense the score would have been smaller.
Simon Hutchinson 3 v Kevin Nieman 1 (HT 3-0)
Goals
First half
6:03 1-0 Simon
9:59 2-0 Simon
13:54 3-0 Simon.
Second half
5:59 3-1 Kevin.
Pitch: Mawra
Kevin: This match was every bit as frustrating as the first match with Simon. The only difference being that I lost. Simon pushed the ball very effectively, and if weren't for a few missed flicks on his part he might have had more goals than just three. My one goal was very well earned, but the score was reflective of each players abilities.
Simon: Finally a game I got my offense moving. To thwart Kevin's ability to block long flicks I would dink the ball in midfield. The first and second goals were shots from the right and the left near the corner of the shooting line and the touch line. The third was a gift from Kevin. He stranded his spare keeper, he had flicked it so hard it was in my end of the field. Two touches from one figure and a longish flick from a second to score.
Wayne Smith 2 v David Jensen 0 (HT 2-0)
Goals
First half
4:13 1-0 Wayne
12:07 2-0 Wayne.
Pitch: Fast
David: I think Wayne started the game more offensive minded. He pressed up more and my defense was sloppy at the start, and I gave him a few chances. The last 3/4 of the game I felt was pretty even.
Wayne: That wasn't nearly as interesting as the first game because David did not hold the ball for 25 of the 30 minutes. As I remember I kept my defense intact almost the entire game. All of my attack was done with four figures or fewer. This left me in good shape at the back. In our first game I managed to get too many players forward leaving me vulnerable at the back.
Simon Hutchinson 1 v David Jensen 0 (HT 1-0)
Goals
First half
9:23 1-0 Simon.
Pitch: Mawra
David: Got down early. I spent the rest of the game pressing. I did not get many chances as I was rushing. I should have slowed down a bit. Apart from those tries when I broke through [the defense] Simon's flick blocked me.
Simon: An early goal gave me the game. For the rest of the game I defended in numbers to frustrate him. Then when he lost possession I could do a fast break up the field. I did have several shots that either struck the post or was saved.
Wayne Smith 1 v Kevin Nieman 0 (HT 0-0)
Goals
Second half
4:20 1-0 Wayne.
Wayne: Not the most exciting game I have ever played with Kevin. I think we are both tired and I am so sure it had an effect on the final outcome. Kevin's long flick touch is now phenomenal. At least three time he had flicks of 18 inches or more.
Kevin: Wayne was certain that possession would change to him. One time he stopped and applauded. The goal Wayne scored was on a share goalkeeper that was misflicked. It took two minutes of flicking for Wayne to get into a position to shoot and he ramped it off a defender and into the goal.
Wayne: And during two minutes of flicking the ball moved a total of 4 inches because Kevin was marking so tightly.
