Dominic v Simon Hutchinson

Friday Subbuteo (Fri Jul 16)

It was a mixed night of mainly friendly games, with only two Season 9 matches being played.

The two league games were important in the race for second place.  First Kevin Nieman's Inter Nieman, who were in eighth place, beat Wayne Smith's left handed team, Left Hannover the Table 96.  Inter could not continue their success in the second game as they were defeated by Simon Hutchinson's Simi City.  These results mean that Simi need to win seven points in their five remaining games to claim the runners up position, from the Lefts.  Inter's win widens the gap between them and bottom club, Jason Mitchell's Valley Irons, to six points.

There were four friendly games played as David Jensen and Dominic Hutchinson joined the three Season 9 participants.  David and Simon finished the night with the best records with two wins and tied the game where they played each other.  Wayne and Dominic fared the worse losing both of their games.  Kevin just played the two league games.

Kumba 2011 A

Friday's friendlies (Fri Jul 9)

With the prospect of a second Friday without Subbuteo the Hutchinsons took matters into their own hands and played two friendly games.

Simon used the two teams he uses in Season 9, Simi City and Red Star, while Dominic used his new teams that he will be using in Season 10, Kumba '11.  Dominic's Kumba '11 are mounted on G2 bases, previous versions of the Kumba franchise have been on SureShot bases.  These games are part of his plan to be to be fully familiar with the new bases in time for the start of the new season.

Both games played out the same way: a goalless first half, Simon taking the lead early in the second half, Dominic equalizing, and then Simon going on to win.  Simi City beat Kumba '11 "A" (first choice team) 2-1, and Red Star beat Kumba '11' "B" (second choice) 3-1.

Season 9

Games left page changed (Mon Jun 28)

As we approach the exciting climax of Season 9 the Games Left page has got confusing.  It was difficult for the players to easily see which fixtures they had left to play.

To remedy this when a team has played all the games with an opponent the row in their outstanding fixtures table has been deleted.  The page now only shows the teams each players has outstanding games with.

Left Hannover the Table 96 v Red Star

Season 9 Match Day 18 (Fri Jun 25)

Simon Hutchinson's Red Star became the second team to have finished all of their league games in Season 9.  They finished with three wins out of four games beating Kevin Nieman's Inventus and Jason Mitchell's Valley Irons in back-to-back games.  Their only defeat was in a closely fought game against Wayne Smith's Left Hannover the Table 96.

The nine points won by the Reds move them into second place, behind the champions, Wayner Bremen, who beat the Hollywood Hammers and Valley Irons.  Simi City, who did not play today, are now in third place with five points less and with six game in hand over the Reds.  The other contender for the runners up spot, Left Hannover the Table 96, won twice defeating the Reds and Inter Nieman, and are now six points behind second place with five games left to play.

Kumba, the only other team to have played all of their games, remain in fifth place as the Hollywood Hammers, who are a point behind them, were beaten by Wayner.  The Hammers have one game left, against Left Hannover, which they have to win to move above Kumba, a draw would mean they would have the same number of points as Kumba.  The favorite for fifth place must be Inventus.  They have the same number of points as the Hammers, and have four games left.

There is no change at the bottom of the league as both Inter and the Irons lost the games they played.  The race for the Wooden Spoon is not over as the Irons are three points behind Inter and with two games in hand.  As they have to play each other twice before the end of the season the Irons could still win enough points to avoid winning the Wooden Spoon.
